Vince Wilfork Tackles Diabetes

New England Patriots All-Pro defensive lineman and co-captain Vince Wilfork is challenging fans to join him in Tackling Diabetes.

Join by 5:00 PM EST Friday, Oct. 7 and win a chance to enjoy two tickets for this Sunday’s Patriots vs. Jets match up at Gillette Stadium. The winner will also receive two passes to attend an official tailgate party.

Vince Wilfork and Joslin Diabetes Center are “Tackling Diabetes” during this year’s Patriots season, raising money for the Vince Wilfork Foundation and Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund. The program kicked off with the Patriots’ 1st home game and will continue through the final regular season game Sunday, January 1, 2012.   

Fans of Wilfork and the important work of the Joslin Diabetes Center can pledge $7.50 or $75.00, in honor of #75, for each tackle Wilfork makes during the regular season.  One-time individual or corporate donations are also encouraged ranging from $75 to $7,500.  Wilfork tackled his opponents 57 times last season; contributions are made monthly by participants. Fans who participate have the opportunity to meet Wilforkat a VIP reception and to win amazing prizes, like these tickets, throughout the season.

“Tackling Diabetes” is a very personal effort for the Patriots defensive lineman and his wife Bianca. Wilfork’s father, his most devoted fan, passed away from complications of his diabetes in 2002. His dad never had the chance to see him play ball with the Patriots. This effort is being aided by the support of EMD Millipore & WEEI Sports Radio Network.  EMD Millipore is a division of Merck KGaA, Germany. 

285 million people worldwide have diabetes and that number is growing at an alarming rate. Joslin Diabetes Center is working toward a cure and a future without diabetes.
