4th Annual Jonathan Irving Memorial Blood Drive

Sharon Credit Union together with the Rotary Club of Sharon recently hosted their 4th Annual Jonathan Irving Memorial Blood Drive.

Sharon Credit Union together with the Rotary Club of Sharon recently hosted their 4th Annual Jonathan Irving Memorial Blood Drive at the Community Center with Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Donor Program.

This year the Blood Drive collected 19 units of blood totaling 83 units over the last four years.  Jonathan Irving was diagnosed in 2006 at the age of 19 with histiocytic sarcoma, a very rare form of cancer.  He was a patient at Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s and had many blood and platelet transfusions.  The first co- sponsored blood drive was held in September of 2007, sadly Jonathan passed away the previous month at the young age of 21. Taking an active role in organizing this event is Robin Burns, Jonathan’s aunt and Training Coordinator for Sharon Credit Union.

“It’s an honor to have Sharon Credit Union and the Rotary Club of Sharon co-sponsor a blood drive in memory of my nephew Jonathan,” shared Ms. Burns.  “The success of this event and the donated use of the Community Center from the Town of Sharon is an example of a community coming together in support of an important cause.”
All blood types are always needed.
