Foxborough Board Votes on Retiree Cuts

Selectmen vote 3-1 to approve changing the healthcare care coverage for retirees. ‎

Selectmen voted 3-1 at this week's meeting, April 12, to approve the pre-65 retiree contributory share of health insurance.

The vote, which will require retirees to pay the same 50 percent premium on their town health insurance plan, will be "phased in" over 2 years.

In what was labeled a "mistake" by town manager, Kevin Pacios, the town has been "picking up" 70 percent of the premium for employees who retire before age 65 and are not yet eligible for Medicare.

Eliminating the subsidy, will save the town $140,000 next year.

Board chairwomen, Lynda Walsh, commented on the healthcare change before the vote.

"We gave a warning last year that this was coming and now we are going to phase it in over 2 years," said Walsh. "I know this tough."

Selectman Paul Mortenson was the only lone vote against the change.
