Trader Joe's Wants to Add Beer, Wine to its Patriot Place Location

Obtaining the necessary package store license, however, may be an issue.

Trader Joe's, a neighborhood grocery store planning to open at Patriot Place in 2012, wants to add beer and wine in their store.

Obtaining the necessary package store license, however, may be an issue for the company as Foxborough has no remaining beer and wine or all-alcohol package store licenses to issue, the Sun Chronicle reports.

According to the Sun Chronicle, the agreement between William Varkas, the owner of Central Wine and Spirits at 50 Central St., to sell his store stock and seven-day all-alcohol package store license to Wine Nation, did not happen, signaling that the license could be in play for Trader Joe's.

Varkas declined to comment.

Foxborough's Board of Selectmen would have to approve any license transfers.

Trader Joe's is a neighborhood grocery store with foods and beverages ranging from the everyday to the exotic. The 16,000-square-foot store will be Trader Joe’s 18th Massachusetts location, and the only within a 15-mile radius of Foxborough. Trader Joe’s has leased existing space in Patriot Place’s South Marketplace between Christmas Tree Shops and Staples.
