Wrentham restaurant named best place to eat on Memorial Day.

Wrentham's Commonwealth BBQ was named by Wrentham and Foxborough readers as the best place to eat on Memorial Day. The restaurant received 24 votes over the course of the week, accounting for 48 percent of the total vote. Nicky's Restaurant in Wrentham and Foxboro's Christina's Fireside Grille were the second-place vote-getters, garnering seven votes (14 percent) each. Also receiving votes were Bar Louie (six votes, 12 percent), Michael's Deli (three votes, six percent) and Waxy O'Connor (two votes, four percent). Thanks to all those who voted, and congratulations to all involved!

Readers vote for F. Gilbert Hills State Forest.
Foxborough's F. Gilbert Hills State Forest was named by Wrentham and Foxborough readers as the best place to spend a staycation in the area. The forest picked up seven votes, representing 63 percent of the total tally. Wrentham State Forest (two votes, 18 percent), the Nature Trail and Cranberry Bog at Patriot Place (one vote, nine percent) and the William Rice Recreation Complex (one vote, nine percent) also picked up votes over the week. Sen. Scott Brown spoke about small business, bipartisanship and representing the state of Massachusetts at an event at the Franklin Country Club Tuesday. The event was held by the United Regional Chamber of Commerce. In the talk, Brown criticized the federal government for fostering uncertainty and spending money poorly.

With over 900 votes cast, Northeast Financial Strategies has taken the "best place to do your taxes in the Wrentham/Foxborough" title. The Wrentham business garnered 520 votes (55 percent of the vote), winning over Foxborough's Sheehan Consulting, which received 409 votes. Kennedy & Associates (11 votes) and William Woolley (one vote) were the third and fourth most popular choices, respectively. In talking at a United Chamber of Commerce event, Senator Brown talks about the challenges and virtues of small business.
Senator Scott Brown spoke to various local business leaders at a United Regional Chamber of Commerce event Tuesday afternoon. Brown, a Wrentham resident, spoke about the importance of small business during the meeting, which took place at the Franklin Country Club. "I'm proud to be pro-business and pro-jobs legislation," he said. "The government can't create jobs, but it can create an environment where you can create jobs." He said the government must look at ways to encourage growth. "We can't get out of this mess overnight, but we do have the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world," he said. "It's not just Franklin competing with Wrentham any more — both of them are competing against the rest of the world." Brown spoke …

Foxborough gym wins our "best of" title.

With more than 600 votes cast, Foxborough's Work Out World has taken the "best local place to work out" title. The gym received 210 of the 632 votes cast, or 33 percent of the total. Other local gyms receiving votes include the Hockomock Area YMCA (174 votes, 27 percent of the total), Crossfit Torque (132 votes, or 20 percent of the total), Gold's Gym (115 votes, 18 percent) and Humble Warrior Yoga. Shelter project advocates sought selectmen support. The shelter will serve the area, including Foxborough, Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham.
The Wrentham Board of Selectmen voted unanimously at its meeting Tuesday to support an animal shelter project at the Wrentham Developmental Center. Maureen Osolnik, of the 4Paws Animal Shelter group, presented the project to the board. "We're trying to construct an animal shelter to serve the area," she said. "There are no shelters in Wrentham, Norfolk, Plainville or Foxborough." "Franklin has a pound, but not a shelter," she added. "They're only legally required to take dogs." Osolnik said the shelter would be no-kill and would take in a variety of animals. "We would take in cats, rabbits, gerbils — all kinds of domestic animals that, in this day and age, a lot of people have been forced to surrender," she said. "We'd take care of them, …
