Winter Skate at Patriot Place presented by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care closed for the season this past Sunday but not without a spectacular finale. Patriot Place hosted “Finale on Ice” at the outdoor skating rink Sunday evening, featuring 25 performances by 38 local competitive figure skaters, all with ties to the New England area. Patriot Place will once again offer recreational hockey players the chance to compete in a one-of-a-kind venue: an outdoor rink in the shadow of Gillette Stadium. Winter Skate at Patriot Place presented by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care will host its second annual Pond Hockey Tournament from Monday, Jan. 23 to Sunday, Jan. 29. The popular pond hockey format features open air, open ice and open goals. “We are looking to expand on last year’s success,” said Patriot Place General Manager Brian Earley. “The tournament is modeled after traditional Canadian pond hockey tournaments. Skaters receive $2 off admission by showing their Harvard Pilgrim membership card or by donating a new or gently used coat to Patriot Place’s Cradles to Crayons Coat Drive. Winter Skate will offer public skating from 4 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 4 to 11 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and all school holidays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. Winter Skate will be open until late February. Parking is free and concessions and bathrooms are available. Winter Skate at Patriot Place, with new partner Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, returns for its third year beginning Nov. 18. The 60-by-140-foot, professionally-maintained ice surface is specifically designed for recreational skating and features an observation deck for non-skaters.
