Waxy’s Owner Apologizes to Community for Liquor Violations

Mark Rohleder, co-owner of Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, apologized to the town during Tuesday’s liquor license violation hearing, saying he hopes to get the establishment “back into the community.”

Waxy O’Connor’s co-owner Mark Rohleder admitted he was dumbfounded when he initially learned of the legal troubles surrounding his Foxborough pub during last May’s liquor license violation hearing and apologized Tuesday for the establishment's fourth violation in two years. “The first thing I said to our attorney [after last May’s hearing] was, ‘I’m sorry, I had no idea what I was walking into regarding all the police incidents and issues with the bar,” Rohleder told selectmen during Tuesday’s liquor license violation hearing. Foxborough’s selectmen suspended Waxy’s liquor license 10 days last May after the pub was found guilty to three violations – one overcrowding and two over serving. Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos warned Waxy’s …

Waxy O’Connor’s Liquor Violation Hearing Continued to Jan. 22; Settlement Possible

Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen continued its public hearing with Waxy O’Connor’s to Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

A conflict of interest between Foxborough’s special counsel for liquor license hearings, Lou Cassis and Waxy O’Connor’s left the town without legal representation Tuesday, forcing the Board of Selectmen to continue Tuesday’s liquor license violation hearing with the establishment to Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. “Our normal special counsel for liquor matters is conflicted on this because he [he has represented Waxy O'Connor's in the past],” said Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos. “We’ve been searching for a liquor license specialist and haven’t found one yet.” Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis explained Cassis has provided Waxy O'Connor's legal services on another matter. While Paicos has handled liquor license violation …

Innocent until proven guilty is a fine standard. My question is -- why wouldn't the Selectmen try and resolve this issue before they renew the license for another year? Flip side of the same issue: why would they "approve" renewal another year with this big question hanging over the license? The license renewal decision must include a "review" of a bar's conduct over the past year, and has to …   more ›

Waxy O'Connors Requests New Liquor License Suspension Start Date

Waxy O'Connors requested to change the start date of their 10 day liquor license suspension from June 1 to Monday, May 30.

Paul DeRensis, Town Counsel for Foxborough, presented selectmen Tuesday night, May 24, with a request for a modification in the settlement agreement between the town and Waxy O'Connors. Popular Foxborough eatery, Waxy O'Connors, requested to change the start date of their 10 day liquor license suspension from June 1 to Monday, May 30. DeRensis made a point to inform selectmen on Waxy's recent good behavior. "They [Waxy's] have been very cooperative and enacted the rollback of hours [no  alcohol after midnight] right away," noted DeRensis. "They [Waxy's] have been working with us on the settlement agreement." Selectmen Lynda Walsh stated her opinion on the proposed date change shortly after DeRensis spoke.  "They are serving a 10 day …

Liquor License Suspension Handed to Waxy O'Connor's in Foxborough

Ten liquor suspension and required police detail among the penalties Waxy O'Connor's will comply with.

Waxy O'Connor's owner Gordon Hyde echoed his desire "to improve and get better" at the May 17 liquor hearing with Foxborough's Board of Selectmen. The board, in a vote of 4-1, approved the recommended motion of a 10-day liquor license suspension for Waxy's beginning on June 1. Selectman James DeVellis was the lone vote against the motion stating that Foxborough has a set process in place for a reason and questions Waxy's credibility. "Everything they [Waxy's] have said is in contrary to what our public safety officials have said," DeVellis noted. In addition to the 10-day liquor suspension, Waxy's also agreed to stop serving alcohol at midnight for the next two months - a measure that selectmen believe is necessary in order to keep the …

I agree Krisma let’s hope they can sort there problems and move on.... as for Louie wasn’t there manager fired for having ladies of a dubious nature in the bar after hours (at least that’s what a member of their staff told me), so yeah Kudos to them, we don’t want that sort of thing in Foxboro.... I will post back here the results of the showcase live hearing when it happens, but don’t hold your …   more ›

Waxy O'Connor's in Foxborough a No-Show at Liquor Violations Hearing

Heated debate leads to selectmen voting to approve continuing Waxy's liquor license hearing to May 17.

Waxy O'Connor's has a new public hearing date of May 17 at 7:05 p.m to address more alleged liquor license and overcrowding violations brought against them. Foxborough Board of Selectmen were taken aback last evening, April 12, when Waxy O'Connor's failed to show up for their scheduled liquor violations hearing. Foxborough Town Manager, Kevin Paicos, presented selectmen with a notice received yesterday, April 11, from Waxy O'Connor's attorney, Patricia Farnsworth, requesting a continuation of the public hearing due to a scheduling conflict.  Paicos said he spoke directly with Fransworth and told her that there was no guarantee that the board would grant a continuance request. Pacios, however, advised the board to continue the hearing at a …

Waxy O'Connor's Hits Another Bump in the Road

Liquor license hearing set tentatively for April 12.

Only a week after The Board of Selectmen voted to suspend Waxy O'Connor's liquor license for 6 days, Foxborough Police Chief O'Leary submitted a hearing request for another series of alleged liquor license violations. The most recent alleged violations occurred on St. Patrick's Day where O'Leary stated an "overcrowding" situation took place. Waxy O'Connor's has recently agreed to increased vigilance by adding police details on Friday and Saturday nights. Waxy O'Connor's has contested the prior license suspensions and will be having a hearing before the State Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission at a date to be determined.

Stop the Madness

Foxborough Police Chief O'Leary, how exactly did you count the patrons? Did you close the establishment and count them as they left? Did you hand out cards with numbers on them and when you ran out you knew there where to many? Did you take your shoes off and use your fingers and toes? How many other places did you check that night? I always thought Haloween was the night for Witch Hunts not St. …   more ›
