With the potential for light to significant snowfall to hit parts of the state tonight and this weekend, the Massachusetts State Police are offering motorists several basic strategies to stay safe in snowy weather.

Freezing rain moves into the area after midnight.
Despite sunny skies and temperatures in the 40s Wednesday, New England will be brought back to reality early Thursday morning as wintry precipitation moves into the area, according to the National Weather Service. Foxborough is expected to see predominantly rain, with little or no snow accumulation. Freezing rain will begin mainly after 4am, making for a slippery morning commute. Rain is expected for the remainder of the day with a high near 46. Some areas of the state could see more than an inch of rain, according to the National Weather Service. A potentially record-breaking nor’easter, dumping snow and high winds throughout Massachusetts overnight, has left many residents powerless this morning. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency reported that 650,688 utility customers are without power across the state this morning. Western and Central Massachusetts were the hardest hit. Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency Saturday night. Large portions of Norfolk County, including Foxborough are also without power this morning. 89.7 percent, 7,014 Foxborough residents, have no power as of this morning.
