Weather forecasters are predicting anything from 1-3 inches of snow hitting the area this weekend to over six inches.
Will Foxborough get pummeled this weekend with more than a foot of snow or will it be less than half a foot with rain mixed in? According to multiple weather reports, this weekend's storm has been downgraded as of Friday night, with snowfall totals in Foxborough being reduced to 1-3 or 3-5 inches. While the snowstorm appears to be less severe than earlier reported, The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. The NWS said 6 inches of snow or more is possible and warned of heavy wet snow that may fall at 1 to 2 inches per hour. Snow may mix with rain in the Foxborough area. The NWS warned that the heavy wet snow could bring down tree limbs and result in scattered power …

Foxborough officials left Wednesday’s meeting with National Grid encouraged that the town’s issues with the Union Loop will be properly addressed.
Several Foxborough officials met with nearly a dozen National Grid representatives, including president Marcy Reed, Wednesday to discuss the town’s ongoing issue with the Union Loop. “We discussed National Grid’s one-to-four-year plan to immediately address the Union Loop and their five-plus-year-plan to address adding a 115KV source to Foxborough, which would give our residents and businesses a much higher level of service and redundancy when we encounter more storms,” said Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis. Details of National Grid's plan were not immediately released but DeVellis said town officials will be working with Foxboro Cable Access TV to put together a summary presentation of Wednesday's meeting. Foxborough Patch will …

Foxborough officials are holding a "small meeting" with National Grid and DPU to discuss the issue with the union loop after its failure during Hurricane Sandy caused mass power outages in town for the third time in one year.
Several Foxborough town officials are sitting down with National Grid and the Department of Public Utilities Wednesday to discuss issues with the town's powersource - the union loop. "It’s a small meeting with the president of National Grid, Marcy Reed and DPU," said Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis at Tuesday's BOS meeting. In addition to DeVellis, Foxborough Board of Selectmen vice chair Mark Sullivan, Town Manager Kevin Paicos and Foxborough Fire Chief Roger Hatfield are expected to attend Wednesday's meeting. "Basically [we are meeting] to discuss what is happening with the union loop and how we can work together to address the issue," DeVellis said. The union loop is the powersource that has failed during Tropical …

Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen agreed to have Town Counsel Richard Gelerman draft a formal complaint letter against National Grid to the Department of Public Utilities following the town's power outages from Superstorm Sandy.
Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen agreed Tuesday to file a formal complaint against National Grid following the power outages caused by Superstorm Sandy at the end of October. “[We are going to] take the proactive step and draft a letter to the Department of Public Utilities and say we have a formal complaint [against National Grid],” said Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis. This is the third issue in one year and we need some answers.” The decision comes two weeks after Foxborough officials expressed their frustrations with the utility company following the town’s third significant power outage caused by a storm in the past year. The letter of complaint will be drafted by Town Counsel Richard Gelerman, reviewed and approved …

Members of the Foxborough Board of Selectmen vented their frustrations regarding the town’s most recent power outage following Hurricane Sandy Monday.
Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis is angry – as are many of the residents – following the town’s third significant power outage over the last year caused by a storm. “This is the third time now and I’m sick of it,” DeVellis said. “I’m tired of it. The same thing being said now [by National Grid regarding the power outages] was said last year.” DeVellis and other Foxborough officials vented their frustrations to National Grid liaison Tom Coughlin Tuesday, calling the power outage situation a bad running “joke” for the town. “When the newspapers and television crews set up on our Common the day before [the storm] to say, ‘I wonder what’s going to happen to Foxborough,’ it’s almost a joke,” DeVellis said. … I don’t know what …

National Grid said in a 3 p.m. teleconference Tuesday that it would offer exact power restoration estimates later in the afternoon.
National Grid says it will have exact power restoration estimates by the end of Tuesday, according to company President Marcy Reed. The estimates, which have always traditionally been offered when the company knows when each customer will have their power back, will be distributed “far and wide,” said Jackie Berry, a company spokeswoman. There are a total of 2,400 National Grid employees at work on Tuesday afternoon statewide in Massachusetts, ranging from line crews, tree crews, transmission crews and other workers following Hurricane Sandy. There are 530 total crews at work, with more than 300 of those from outside National Grid's service area. In addition, the newly created “community liaisons” are at work in the emergency operations …
Foxborough town officials are holding an emergency meeting to provide updates on the power outage situation caused by Hurricane Sandy.
As of 8:53 a.m. Tuesday, National Grid is reporting on its power outage map that 1,664 customers in Foxborough are without power. That number has been reduced from Monday night, where nearly 75 percent of the town was without power, forcing Foxborough Public Schools to remained closed for a second straight day. Town Manager Kevin Paicos said he received "extremely frustrating" news from National Grid Monday night when the utility company said the town should prepare for multi-day outages. Foxborough officials are meeting again at Town Hall Tuesday morning to discuss the town's status and hear an update from National Grid. Foxborough Patch Local Editor Jeremie Smith will be at the meeting and providing the latest information as it becomes …

Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos called Monday night's news from National Grid "an incredibly frustrating situation" but "the focus for now must be on restoration of power and care for our citizens."
Here we go again. One year after two storms each caused multi-day power outages throughout Foxborough, residents must prepare to face a similar scenario in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, according to Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos Monday night. “Although Foxborough itself sustained what appears to be little damage, severe damage to transmission lines, which feed power to Foxborough sub-stations has occurred,” Paicos said following a conversation with National Grid president Marcy Reed. “Primary among these is the so-called Union Loop, which has suffered damage to 5 of its 12 sections. In addition, damage has occurred to at least two cross-country transmission lines, which feed power to Foxborough.” So what does this mean? “National …
National Grid's Foxborough liaison Tom Coughlin is currently at the Foxborough Public Safety Building providing a direct line of communication between the town and the utility company during Hurricane Sandy.
Tom Coughlin, National Grid’s liaison for Foxborough, told selectmen Monday he expects to see downed trees and branches in Foxborough caused by Hurricane Sandy’s high winds, which may lead to power outages. “Hopefully all the main [utility] lines are clear but I expect we are going to see branches fall on some of the house services and trees on private property,” Coughlin said. Coughlin said his fingers are crossed that Foxborough’s power outages will not be severe. “We are hopefully just going to see little things like downed services, which are easy to repair,” he said. As of 3:30 p.m. Monday, it has been fairly quiet on the power outage front in Foxborough – knock on wood – despite nearly 50,000 National Grid customers in Massachusetts …

Foxborough officials are bringing in out-of-town groups to help solve the problem.
Foxborough residents may have to wait a little bit longer before the town’s power is back on. “The majority of the town is still without power,” said Police Chief Edward O’Leary, who also noted that Foxborough officials are bringing in out-of-town groups to help solve the problem. “We’re talking to specialists about strategies to get our grids back online, but theorizing and acting are two different things,” he said. Although there is no official timetable or prediction of when it may happen, O’Leary said his team is working tirelessly to bring electricity back to Foxborough. The town has been without power since early Sunday morning, when what was left of Hurricane Irene finally hit southern Massachusetts with winds in excess of sixty …

Thanks for the update, but am still concerned about "1-5 years" and "immediately" being in the same sentence. Communication and planning are great, but we want to see some details and timing. Personally, I won't stay here 5 years or even 2 if we will be without power with every storm as we seem to be. Can you please provide a date/time in advance when the communication will be available on …   more ›
