Around Town: Officials No Longer Exploring Saturday Town Meetings; Get Involved with Founders Day & More

Here's a round up of news briefs from around Foxborough.

Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen announced last week it will no longer be pursuing Saturday Town Meetings. “Topic is officially dead,” said Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis. Selectmen had spent the last several months discussing the possibility of moving future Town Meetings to Saturdays as a way to improve attendance, especially among the senior population, but the concept received little support from the community. “I have heard nothing more [from the community] about [moving Town Meeting to Saturday],” said Foxborough Board of Selectmen vice chair Mark Sullivan. “Other than the first conversation I had in my last election I haven’t heard a thing about it.” Said selectman Lorraine Brue: “I haven’t received any requests for it but I…

Despite the rain, the community came out for a day of fun, food and celebration.

Spirits were high, smiles were big and bellies were full. The community of Foxborough did not let the rain, heavy at times, bring down their spirits on one of the most anticipated events of the year - Founders Day. "Rain? What rain?" Foxborough resident Mark Richard said with a smile. "My family and myself look forward to Founders Day ever year. Rain is not going to ruin our spirits." The Founders Day Parade kicked off at 10:00 a.m followed by activities at Booth Playground. Non-Profit organizations provided food, games, raffles, crafts and more. Foxborough Town Manager, Kevin Paicos, suited up in a wet suit to brave the dunk tank. Foxborough residents lined up to try their hand at dunking Paicos into the water tank. Paicos jokingly …

Dunk tank at Founders Day will benefit Foxboro Never Forgets.

Town officials are hoping that "getting dunked" on Saturday will help to raise the final amount of $30,000 for Foxborough's 9/11 Memorial.  Current and past selectmen, as well as Town Manager Kevin Paicos, will take on the dunk tank Saturday at Founders Day. Selectmen recently joked that this is the time for the community to truly express their feelings towards them. The dunk tank is sponsored by Foxboro Never Forgets. Foxboro Never Forgets recently broke ground on the town's 9/11 Memorial at the Public Safety building. The fundraising for the September 11th Memorial started on Foxborough Founders Day in 2010. In today’s economy, raising the funds needed has been challenging.  "Foxboro Never Forgets" is within $30,000 of their goal. The …
