Selectman Mark Sullivan received a protective order against a man accused of threatening his life.
A Foxborough selectman today sought and received a protective order against the man accused of threatening his life. Selectman Mark Sullivan requested the order just prior to the arraignment of Michael Viscardi in Wrentham District Court. Viscardi, 40, of 1 Spruce Street is charged with threatening Sullivan's life. The order would require Viscardi to stay away from Sullivan, his home and his place of work. Viscardi said he had problems with such an order. "I plan on going to Foxborough town meetings, and he's a selectman," Viscardi said, adding that he planned on getting a restraining order against Sullivan himself. Judge Stephen Ostrach added a condition that Viscardi be allowed to attend public meetings. Viscardi also objected to the …

Man arraigned for allegedly threatening the life of Foxborough Selectman Mark Sullivan.
A Foxborough man accused of threatening the life of a local selectman over the Wynn casino proposal was arraigned today in Wrentham District Court. Michael Viscardi, 40, of 1 Spruce Street in Foxborough, was charged with threatening to commit a crime — to wit, kill. He was ordered held on $5,000 bail by Judge Stephen Ostrach. The prosecution sought $100,000 bail, citing the facts in the police report and Viscardi's criminal record. According to the state, Viscardi spoke with Foxborough Selectman Mark Sullivan on April 15 and became extremely agitated. The state claimed at Viscardi began screaming at Sullivan, saying, if Sullivan did not change his vote, he was a dead man. The prosecution said, the next day, Sullivan drove down Spruce …

(The following letter was sent to the Foxborough selectmen by resident Marc Todd.) To the Editor: Whether for or against the casino project, it seems clear to me that Mr. Kraft and Mr. Wynn will to continue to advance this proposal to a Town vote, as it is their right to do so. I am now very concerned about the position the Town will find itself in from a business prospective if we are not careful. As I have always advocated we need to protect the Town first. Working on the vote, whether yes or no, is only part of the exposure the Town faces in a proposal of this magnitude. Consider if we ignore this proposal in hopes over time it will go away. That is not realistic; a vote will most likely happen at some point. If we drift along and …

From Jobs for Foxboro: Jobs for Foxboro (JFF) released a detailed rebuttal to misleading claims published on the NoFoxboroCasino.com website. Exposing NoFoxboroCasino.com’s claims as wrong, the JFF rebuttal counters every claim, citing peer-reviewed, independent national studies and other widely available public information that demonstrates how the economic benefits of a destination resort casino far outweigh impacts. “Widely available, independent, and verifiable evidence directly contradicts the nonsense that NoFoxboroCasino.com continues to publish,’” said Scott Farmelant, spokesman for Jobs for Foxboro. “Truth is, community after community across the United States have comfortably integrated destination resorts and reaped tremendous…

A look into the impact a possible casino would have on home values in Foxborough.
Aside from a potential increase in local revenue, job creation and a larger business tax base, proponents of the Wynn-Kraft Foxborough casino venture are citing another positive: a potential increase to home values. According to the MLS (Multiple Listing Service), a single-family home in Foxboro averages $416,000. This figure is based on selling prices of homes sold over the past six months. "There are numerous studies that clearly show that casinos have either no effect on housing prices, or a modest positive effect, likely due to increase in employment and subsequent sales activity," said Scott Farmelant, a Jobs For Foxborough spokesman. One such study Farmelant highlighted was conducted in 2005 by the Rappaport Institute for Greater …
