The Kraft Group refuted reports in Thursday's Foxboro Reporter and Sun Chronicle saying the company may be looking to revisit plans for a casino if proposed zoning changes are approved by the town's voters.
The Kraft Group delivered a clear message Thursday to anyone concerned the company’s pursuit of zoning changes to property along Route 1 could reopen the possibility of a casino coming to Foxborough. “We are not pursuing a casino,” said Jeff Cournoyer, spokesman for The Kraft Group. “We are honoring the town’s position on that, as we said we would from the very beginning.” Voters said “no” to the possibility of a casino being developed across from Gillette Stadium on Route 1 in Foxborough at May’s Town Election after months of heated debate over whether or not the proposal should even be heard. Following the May 7 election, the Kraft Group responded with the following statement on Tuesday, May 8: “When the Commonwealth of Massachusetts …

I am a resident of South Walpole who is very concerned about the proposed casino by Steve Wynn on land that may be leased by Robert Kraft across the street from Gillette Stadium. There are almost 500 residential homes with many families and children located within 1,000 yards of the proposed casino site. Many directly abut the proposed site. I do not believe that this is the type of site that the legislature had in mind when they passed the casino bill. The casino and surrounding complex will be massive, and will include many bars, clubs and entertainment venues as well as multi-family dwellings according to the zoning change proposal submitted by the Kraft Group. The zoning also proposed amphitheaters, 500 foot tall wind turbines, 30 …

Foxborough selectmen address communication and integrity concerns Tuesday night.
The topic of communication was a major theme throughout Tuesday night's board of selectmen meeting, taking place back on home court - town hall. Conversation among board members circled around the news of a so-called "secret meeting" that took place in early August between selectmen chairman Larry Harrington and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. According to the Sun Chronicle, Harrington learned of the Kraft Group's interest in a resort casino on Route 1 in that early August meeting and never disclosed that meeting to the public. In the agenda item entitled, "board of selectmen/town manger communications," board members commented on the recent breaking news, ultimately coming to the conclusion that moving forward, the board needs to…

Casino opposition holds strong in Norfolk. Foxborough selectmen look ahead to regular town business as casino talk remains.
Anti-casino efforts continued Monday evening in Norfolk as 75 people gathered at the Olive Day School to discuss the casino proposed across from Gillette Stadium in neighboring Foxborough. Traffic, public safety limitations and overcrowded schools were among the biggest concerns addressed by attendees, the Sun Chronicle reports. At the conclusion of the meeting, residents signed a petition asking Kraft to withdraw the casino plans. According to the Sun Chronicle, Norfolk selectman James Lehan said that a casino "will impact Norfolk the way we know it." "It will not be the same," continued Lehan. Both selectmen boards in Wrentham and Norfolk have voted to oppose a casino. Meanwhile in Foxborough, the casino debate continues after the …

Letter to the Editor: I first started doing business in Foxborough more than 25 years ago. Since then, my family and I have tried to build and create businesses that add value and enhance the Town. In addition to our business activities, I have strived to be a charitable member of the community and have built lasting friendships. My family and I have very much enjoyed our relationship with the Town. If nothing else, I hope that my 25-year history here has established a strong track record of doing what we’ve said we would do. Regarding the proposal for a “casino” in Foxborough, I can understand why some people may be opposed to it. When the concept was first raised, I was opposed, too, but I listened. What I heard is that Wynn Resorts …

Official date and time will be announced and publicized. Meeting is tentatively being set for Dec. 17.
The town of Foxborough has been turned upside down in past four days, making the topic of casino development one of the most polarizing issues in over a decade for the town. "My fear is that this issue will divide the town," commented selectman Lynda Walsh during Tuesday night's selectmen meeting at town hall. Selectmen addressed the topic of casino development in Foxborough briefly Tuesday, as the issue has grown exponentially overnight, exploding strong reaction from both sides of the issue. Board members were quickly flooded with phone calls and emails from concerned residents. Board chair Larry Harrington said in the past four days, he has received over 50 phone calls and has responded to 50 to 75 emails. "60 percent of the emails has …

A community rally was held on Saturday morning, Dec. 3, on Foxborough Common.
Foxborough and surrounding community residents who are opposed to a casino in Foxborough held a community rally Saturday morning, Dec. 3, on Foxborough's town common. (Las Vegas Casino Developer Steve Wynn is Headed to Foxborough [POLL]) The purpose of the rally was for residents to show their opposition to a casino in Foxborough and to "maintain the integrity of the town," as stated in the rally statement release. “This (casino) would fundamentally impact the town for generations to come,” said resident Stephanie Crimmins at the rally. In light of Steve Wynn's visit to Foxborough this Sunday, "a No Fox-Vegas" group was created on Facebook to gain opposition support. The group recently started an online petition to oppose a casino …

Jeremie, I don't even know where to start after reading this article. It was irresponsible for the Foxboro Reporter to allow an article to be published with merely hearsay. If in fact the reporter was unable to attend the Planning Board meeting and was reporting a conversation he had with Mr Grieder, then that should have been clearly stated in the article. It is neither factual nor concise, …   more ›
