Waxy O'Connor's Liquor License Suspended 16 Days for 4th Violation

Foxborough's Board of Selectmen agreed to a settlement at Tuesday's liquor license violation hearing that will allow Waxy O'Connor's to continue to operate in town.

Despite four liquor license violations in less than two years, Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen agreed Tuesday to a settlement that would allow Waxy O’Connor’s to continue its business in town – but not without penalty. As part of the settlement agreement, Waxy’s liquor license has been suspended 16 days, beginning Wednesday, Jan. 23 and lasting through Thursday, Feb. 7. The suspension includes no alcohol service on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 3). In addition to the suspension, the Main Street pub will also gift the town $2,000 in legal fees and $8,000 in police/public safety training. The above conditions were part of a 17-point settlement agreement presented by Waxy's attorney Frank Spillane, who also serves as Foxborough's Town Moderator. …

The BOS clearly don't want to lose all the town revenue that all the underage drinkers provide to Waxy's. It is like a night club. I would never bring my family there for dinner, I don't care how good the menu is.   more ›

Waxy O’Connor’s Liquor Violation Hearing Continued to Jan. 22; Settlement Possible

Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen continued its public hearing with Waxy O’Connor’s to Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

A conflict of interest between Foxborough’s special counsel for liquor license hearings, Lou Cassis and Waxy O’Connor’s left the town without legal representation Tuesday, forcing the Board of Selectmen to continue Tuesday’s liquor license violation hearing with the establishment to Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. “Our normal special counsel for liquor matters is conflicted on this because he [he has represented Waxy O'Connor's in the past],” said Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos. “We’ve been searching for a liquor license specialist and haven’t found one yet.” Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis explained Cassis has provided Waxy O'Connor's legal services on another matter. While Paicos has handled liquor license violation …

Innocent until proven guilty is a fine standard. My question is -- why wouldn't the Selectmen try and resolve this issue before they renew the license for another year? Flip side of the same issue: why would they "approve" renewal another year with this big question hanging over the license? The license renewal decision must include a "review" of a bar's conduct over the past year, and has to …   more ›

Waxy O'Connor's in Jeopardy of Losing Liquor License Following Most Recent Alleged Violation

Waxy O'Connor's will appear before the Foxborough Board of Selectmen on Jan. 8, 2013 for a liquor license violation public hearing after allegedly serving alcohol to a minor.

Editor's note: Waxy O'Connor's Irish Pub is innocent until proven guilty regarding the recent allegation against the establishment for serving alcohol to a minor. Waxy O'Connor's Irish Pub is allegedly in violation of its liquor license for the fourth time since 2011 after Foxborough Police reported the establishment served alcohol to a minor during a September compliance check operation in town. The alleged violation could lead to significant consequences for the Main Street establishment if found guilty. "If [Waxy's] gets hit with a fourth violation then they will be out of business," said Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos following a May 2011 public hearing in which Foxborough's Board of Selectmen suspended Waxy's liquor license for …

If they fail at the compliance checks... imagine how many minors actually get served when no one is checking.   more ›
