Foxborough Boys’ Hoop Team Finishes Year as Neely’s Best

Foxborough boys’ basketball head coach C.J. Neely called his 2012-13 team “the best group” he’s had in six years at helm of the Warriors.

Each season, Foxborough High School boys’ basketball head coach C.J. Neely sets a team goal to win at least 10 games and qualify for the state tournament without using the Sullivan Rule, which allows for teams that play against higher division opponents during the regular season to only count games against the same division when determining postseason eligibility. The Warriors accomplished that goal in 2007-08 - Neely’s first season as coach of FHS – finishing the year with a 10-10 record. Since then, Foxborough had finished below .500 the past four seasons heading into this winter. And despite a quick exit from the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament last week, Foxborough enjoyed its most successful season under Neely’s six-…

VIDEO: Foxborough Girls’ Basketball Closes Out Hopkinton in Fourth Quarter to Win Warrior Classic

The Foxborough High School girls' basketball team defeated a talented Hopkinton squad, 48-41 to capture the Warrior Winter Classic championship. Next up: The MIAA State Tournament.

The Foxborough High School girls’ basketball team proved Tuesday it’s ready for the postseason after a 48-41 win over Hopkinton in the Warrior Winter Classic championship game. “[We] showed [we] could maintain composure going into the fourth quarter when [we] were down to a great Hopkinton team and [we] really stepped it up so I am really proud of [the team],” said Foxborough head coach Lisa Downs. Defense ruled the first quarter as both teams struggled to gain any offensive momentum in the opening eight minutes. Foxborough managed to gain a 10-7 lead on Hopkinton by quarter’s end but Hopkinton chipped away at deficit in the second and trailed the Warriors by just one (19-18) at halftime. The third quarter belonged to the Hillers as …

Foxborough Girls’ Basketball Steamrolls Lunenburg; Readies for Hopkinton in Warrior Classic Title Game

Foxborough beat Lunenburg, 85-37 Monday to advance to Tuesday’s Warrior Classic championship game against Hopkinton. Tip-off is 6:30 p.m. at Foxborough High School.

Foxborough High School girls’ basketball coach Lisa Downs said when her team is firing on all cylinders they are “pretty fantastic to watch.” That was true Monday night. The Warriors (14-5) turned in a complete game Monday, cruising past visiting Lunenburg, 85-37 in the opening round of the Warrior Classic tournament. “[We] came out executing and played smart defense,” Downs said. “Our press was working much better [Monday] then it had been last week. … Offense rotated the ball in and out and our shot selection was much better.” It is rare that a high school basketball team can put a game away in the second quarter, but that’s exactly what the Warriors did when they outscored Lunenburg, 29-5 in the second frame to take a 48-18 lead into …

Foxborough Girls' Basketball to Use Warriors Classic as Prep for State Tourney

The Foxborough High School girls' basketball team will host Lunenburg Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the opening round of this week's Warriors Classic tournament.

What a difference a year makes. This time last season the Foxborough High School girls’ basketball team was wrapping up a 3-16 campaign under then first-year head coach Lisa Downs and without star forward Ashley Snyder (lost to injury). Despite the 2011-12 season ending in a 70-44 loss to Hopkinton in the Warriors Classic championship game, Downs was optimistic for "next year." “I’m really looking forward to what next year’s gonna bring,” Downs said after last season’s loss to Hopkinton. “I have a lot of young players that now with a year under my belt they know what I expect. They know the system I try to get.” "Next year" is now here and that experience Downs alluded to has paid dividends this winter as Foxborough just concluded a 13-5 …

Foxborough Boys Basketball Upsets Oliver Ames

Josh Patkin led the Warriors with 20 points while Jeff McPherson had 12 points.

After winning by 15 in their initial meeting, no one could be blamed for considering Oliver Ames the favorite in their rematch against Foxborough. Yet this time around the Foxborough team from almost four weeks ago was no where to be seen. “I said before the game bring it tonight and battle and if you bring it you’re gonna put yourself in a great position,” Foxborough head coach CJ Neely said. Upsetting one of the area’s better teams, the Warriors surprised the Oliver Ames Tigers with a 55-49 win on Senior Night.  A 10 point opening quarter from Jeff McPherson (12 points) helped the Warriors gain an 11 point lead after the first quarter. Getting open down low, McPherson was able to get a few quick buckets under the basket to help build the…
