Work on Turf Field Project Expected to Begin by End of January

Turf’s Up chair James DeVellis met with Foxborough’s Conservation Commission Monday and hopes to begin clearing trees behind Foxborough High School by the end of January for the new baseball and softball fields.

So far, so good. That’s how Foxborough resident James DeVellis described the status of the recently approved community turf field project set to be constructed at the high school. That work will begin in the next couple of weeks, according to DeVellis, who called the construction schedule “aggressive.” On Monday, DeVellis met with the town’s Conservation Commission as the chair of the Turf’s Up committee to share information about the turf field project and inform them of the scheduled work to be done behind the high school near Hersey Field. “The meeting went well,” DeVellis said. “This was an informational meeting I asked for as a courtesy to let the Conservation Commission know that we will be clearing trees in the next few weeks in the…

What's Next for Foxborough's Turf Field Project?

Turf's Up chair James DeVellis said the next step in the turf field project will be a meeting among community leaders who will be involved and impacted by the town's newest field.

Foxborough said “yes” at Tuesday’s Special Town Meeting to construct a turf field at the high school, green lighting the project to take the next step. So, what is that next step? Turf’s Up chair James DeVellis said it will be setting up a meeting with everyone in town that will be involved in and affected by the turf field. “The first thing I want to do is have a meeting with all the school, coaches and directors to make sure I can hear exactly what their needs are,” DeVellis said. “With so many sports, age groups and summer leagues there will undoubtedly be an inconvenience at some level and short of dropping [the turf field] from a helicopter onto the area, something has to give.
