Trader Joe's Recalls Frozen Chicken and Rice Meal

The grocer has voluntarily recalled 240 cartons of a frozen chicken and rice meal due to possible listeria contamination.

Trader Joe's has voluntarily recalled a batch of one of its frozen chicken and rice meals from store shelves in 14 states, including Massachusetts, due to possible listeria contamination. The neighborhood grocer announced over the weekend it was alerted by its supplier that some Trader Joe's Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice meals may be affected. The products in question are: sku 99032 with a production date of "305 12" and come in 12.5-ounce packages. "In accordance with our stringent health and safety standards, and out of the utmost caution and care for our customers, all code dates of this product have been removed from sale and destroyed. To date, we have received no reports of illness related to this product," said Trader Joe's in a …

FDA Halts Peanut Butter Plant's Distribution to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods

The Sunland Inc. plant that distributes products to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Target, Safeway and others is linked to Salmonella contamination that made at least 41 people ill in 20 states.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The various types of Sunland peanut butter products—sold under several brands by major food retailers, including Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Target and Safeway—had been part of a voluntary recall that began in September and later was expanded to include other nut butters as well as processed nuts and peanuts. The FDA action announced Monday is a mandatory order. The company's nut products have been "linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney that has sickened 41 people in 20 states," …

Town Documents Show Kraft Group Doesn't 'Owe' Foxborough Money for Sewer Contrary to popular opinion among some Foxborough town officials, The Kraft Group does not owe the town $7.5 million – or any money for that matter – from a failed proposal involving the development of a waste water treatment facility for the town located at Gillette Stadium, according to town documents. In 2007, the Kraft Group and the town of Foxborough successfully negotiated the development of Patriot Place and with it the town has received annual town revenue of $3 million. However, five years and millions in revenue has not changed the perception of some town officials that The Kraft Group “owes” Foxborough $7.5 million for what they consider to be false …

Trader Joe's at Patriot Place in Foxborough opened its doors to hundreds of customers Friday morning. Watch the video below for a look inside the neighborhood grocery store.

With a long line of customers waiting outside Trader Joe's doors in Foxborough Friday morning, Chris Maguire, the grocery store chain's Regional Vice President, excited the crowd the following message: "This is your Trader Joe's Foxborough." And it truly is. The decor incorporated throughout the 16,000 square foot grocery store touches on local landmarks like Town Hall and community pride like the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium. Hundreds of customers enjoyed the store's opening Friday morning - loading up carriages with some of their favorite foods trademarked by the neighborhood grocery store. The following meetings and events will be held in Foxborough this week. Tuesday, Sept. 4: Board of Selectmen, 7 p.m. at Andrew Gala Jr. Meeting Room at Town Hall: The Board of Selectmen will hear an update from selectman Lynda Walsh on the status of negotiations with the Kraft Organization. Selectmen are also expected to discuss the following: Thursday, Sept. 6: State Primary Election, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at John J. Ahern Middle School Gym: The State Primary election will be held in Foxborough Thursday. Trader Joe's to Celebrate Foxborough Opening in Grand Style

Trader Joe's Grand Opening celebrations - to be held at 8 a.m. on Sept. 7 - will include a ceremonial Lei cutting with Trader Joe’s Crew Members, appearances by “Pat Patriot” and Patriots cheerleaders and live music, free raffles for prizes and more.

When the ceremonial Lei is cut at 8 a.m. next Friday, Trader Joe's will officially be open for business at its Patriot Place location in Foxborough. For those counting down at home - that's just seven days away. The neighborhood grocery store's arrival to town has been well documented and wildly anticipated by Foxborough residents and its surrounding communities alike.
