Trader Joe's Being Sued for Mislabeled Foods

Three California women are accusing the neighborhood grocery chain of falsely claiming that several of its products contain no artificial flavors, ingredients or preservatives.

Trader Joe’s, the neighborhood grocery chain with a location at Patriot Place in Foxborough, is facing a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of intentionally mislabeling several of its branded packaged foods to make them seem healthier than they are, according to The Huffington Post. California residents Amy Gitson, Christine Vodicka and Deborah Ross are each plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Trader Joe’s. The plaintiffs, according to The Huffington Post, are suing Trader Joe’s because the “evaporated cane juice” and “organic evaporated cane juice” listed as ingredients in Trader Joe’s brand yogurt and soymilk turned out to be normal sugar. “The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has banned the term ‘evaporated cane juice’ as a …

The FDA action announced Monday is a mandatory order. The company's nut products have been "linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney that has sickened 41 people in 20 states," …

Take Foxborough Patch's Poll on Trader Joe's

Trader Joe's liquor license request will be on the Foxborough selectmen's agenda Tuesday night.

After not reaching a discussion on whether to allow the transfer of a all-alcoholic license to Trader Joe's to be built at Patriot Place, the Foxborough selectmen will take up the matter again Tuesday night at the Burrill School at 7 p.m. Trader Joe's is looking to buy the current license owned by Central Wine & Spirits. Owner William Varkas is looking to sell his business. Selectmen closed the public hearing part of the hearing at the April 10 to allow Louis Cassis, the town's special attorney on liquor licenses, to work with Trader Joe's to come up with an agreement which would limited the sale of hard liquor during ticketed events at Gillett Stadium. Bill Varkas should be able to sell his license to the highest bid, and I'm sure that's Trader Joes. No "one" selectmen should throw a wrench in the works just because he dislikes Bob Kraft. No one is going to pay big bucks for a license and keep it downtown. It's time to get over the battle against Patriot Place!   more ›

Trader Joe's License Request on Foxborough Selectmen's Table

Trader Joe's license and town manager Kevin Paicos' report should highlight Tuesday's Foxborough selectmen's meeting.

Get ready for another long meeting when the Foxborough selectmen meet on Tuesday night. Check Foxborough Patch next week to get the agenda before the meeting. Selectmen is expecting to hear a report from town manager Kevin Paicos on why he didn't allow members of the Kraft organization speak at the March 13 meeting when they wanted to address the board on the Route 1 billboard issue. Paicos said at the time that the Kraft Group was a bidder on the billboards and should have been prevented from speaking. The Kraft Group argued that should have been allowed to speak and they had notified the town they weren't going to bid on the billboards. That matter ended up being decided by a judge, who ruled the Kraft Group could speak during the next…

I think there is a point that people are missing. Just saying that they only sell specialty wines and warm, craft beers does not mean that they HAVE to sell those things. Their past business model did not include full liquor licenses for the stores but now it does. That means they changed it as some point, so what's to say after they get the full liquor license that the business model doesn't …   more ›

Foxborough Selectmen Put Hold on Trader Joe's Plan

After a lengthy debate Tuesday night, the Foxborough Board of Selectmen voted to wait until their next week to make a decision to whether to grant Trader Joe's a full alcohol license.

Trader Joe's will have to wait until the next Foxborough selectmen's meeting in two weeks to hear whether they will be allowed to operate at Patriot Place with a full liquor license. In a lengthy debate, selectmen heard from both sides,  pro-Trader's Joe and those concerned about alcohol problems at Patriots Place. While there was little debate by the selectmen on the beer and wine license part, the selectmen were deadlocked on the full license and whether Trader Joe's will be allowed to sell spirits at the planned store, which will be located in the former Circuit City building in the South plaza part of Patriot Place. Selectmen James DeVellis, Mark Sullivan and Lorraine Brue wanted to have more time to consider the measure. Larry …
