The Fighter: A Big Contender In The Oscar Ring

A review of the film "The Fighter."

This week, in honor of Oscar night in Hollywood, Patch is reviewing the box office hit, The Fighter. The Fighter is based on the true story of boxers 'Irish' Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund. Ward and Eklund are half-brothers from a large family from Lowell, Massachusetts. The Fighter is much more than your ordinary "hero" boxing film. The Fighter dives deep into the relationships between Ward, Eklund and their family. Director David O Russell examines the line between what it means to be a brother and a boxer. In an ironic twist, The Fighter, ins't necessarily about Ward's rise to boxing fame, but instead about his fight to keep his family together. Ward, played by Mark Wahlberg and Eklund, played by Christian Bale, are a unlikely pair to act …

Dig Out to Go Out

Just a reminder: there is tons to do out there, just beyond that ton of snow!

If you still cannot believe how fast the last decade has flown by, have I got a 2 hour cure for you!  Phone the babysitter and head over to Showcase Live at Patriot Place on Thursday, for a reunion with all things “2000” when Howie Day dusts off his smash singles from the early “2000’s” in front of a standing room only crowd.  Show starts at 8pm, doors are at 6pm.  I like his latest album, Sound the Alarm, which you could play in front of the kids, but could just as easily dance to with the hubster. Overall, Howie Day’s voice is pretty darn captivating, so listen at your own peril! Tickets are still available! If you can’t sneak out on a weeknight, and believe me I know how that is, consider polishing up your own Oscar Awards short list.  …
