More Republicans Enter Race for U.S. Senate

Bielat and Gomez say they’re in; Sullivan may also join the field.

It’s starting to shape up into quite a race, as the field of potential Republican candidates for U.S. Senate continues to grow. This week, two more Republicans threw their hats in the proverbial ring in the race for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the appointment of John Kerry to Secretary of State - Norfolk’s Sean Bielat and Cohasset’s Gabriel Gomez. Candidates have just under two weeks to meet the Feb. 27 deadline to gather the 10,000 certified signatures needed to appear on the April 30 primary ballot. The special election is June 25.

After losing two races for Congress, Bielat has opened up a federal campaign office to raise money for a Senate run, according to a report in the Boston Globe. Bielat lost to Barney Frank in 2010 and…

Joe Kennedy III Wins Fourth Congressional District Seat

Retiring Barney Frank will be succeeded by scion of Kennedy political dynasty.

Joe Kennedy III will be a new U.S. Congressman  from Massachusetts. At around 9:30 p.m., the Associated Press called the race for 32-year old Kennedy, who lives in Brookline, as he was beating by a 2-1 margin Norfolk Republican Sean Bielat in the race to represent the redrawn Fourth Congressional District. Rep. Barney Frank, a media celebrity Tuesday night at Kennedy's celebration party at the Newton Marriott Hotel, is retiring after serving the Fourth District since 1981. Yes, the Kennedys are a famous political family, but Joe III especially follows family tradition with this particular win: his father, Joe Kennedy II, served as Congressman from Massachusetts (in the 8th Congressional District) from 1987-1999. And his great-uncle, who …

4th Congressional District GOP Candidate Sean Bielat Votes in Norfolk

The GOP candidate for Congress voted at the Freeman-Kennedy School in Norfolk Tuesday morning along with his wife, Hope.

For the first time in almost 30 years, the winner of Tuesday’s 4th Congressional Election will not be Barney Frank but rather Democrat Joseph Kennedy III or Republican Sean Bielat. With Frank retiring at the end of his term in January, Kennedy or Bielat will be the district's next Congressman representing Foxborough.  Bielat, along with his wife, Hope, and two young children, Theo and Seraphina, stopped by the Freedman-Kennedy School in Norfolk just after 10 a.m. Tuesday to cast their ballots for the general election. For Bielat, this is his second attempt at running for Congress, losing to Frank in the 2010 election. “I think I made the right choices in the voting booth. Feel good about who we voted,” Bielat said after submitting his …

Bielat, Kennedy Spar in Brief Television Debate

The 15-minute debate aired on Fox25 Morning News earlier Wednesday.

Although they had just a few minutes to make their case, Fourth Congressional District candidates Joe Kennedy III and Sean Bielat touted their experience and ideas in a Fox25 debate earlier Wednesday morning.  The live debate, which was moderated by Fox25 news host Gene Levanchy, lasted less than 15 minutes. This was the final scheduled television appearance for Bielat and Kennedy before the Nov. 6 general election.  Bielat, a Norfolk Republican, is running against Kennedy, a Brookline Democrat, to replace the retiring Fourth District Congressman Barney Frank, of Newton. The winner will represent Foxborough in Congress. Keeping with a theme that has run throughout the campaign, Bielat and Kennedy sparred on experience and whether Kennedy's…

There is an old saying @Sean Bielat, and the saying is: "Follow the Money." How many people noticed the fine print on the back-to-school supplies from Staples.com this past year, school notebooks were on sale for .01-cents each, and the fine print on the front cover of the school notebook states: "Made In Brazil." It does not say: Made in China (for a change); nor does it say: Made in Mexico (…   more ›

ATTLEBORO – Republican congressional candidate Sean Bielat has military experience, but the son of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden told an audience in South Attleboro last week that Bielat's Democratic opponent Joe Kennedy III was the best person to represent veterans in Washington. After spending the day in New Hampshire campaiging for his father and President Barack Obama, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden came to the American Legion Post 312 in South Attleboro last Thursday for the nighttime event called "Veterans for Joe Kennedy." Kennedy is running against Bielat for the seat in the U.S. House representing Massachusett's 4th District, which includes Foxborough. Biden, who served in Iraq from 2008 to 2009 as a member of the Delaware …

In their first general election debate appearance, Fourth Congressional District candidates Sean Bielat and Joe Kennedy III went head-to-head Thursday night on topics including policy, job creation and social security. Bielat, a Republican, also focused on his opponent's resume. He argued that Kennedy, a Democrat, does not have enough experience for the congressional seat, according to a report Friday in the Boston Globe. The debate was held at the WCVB-TV 5 studios in Needham and taped for the channel's political show, "On the Record" with Janet Wu and Ed Harding.
