Raytheon and the New England Patriots announced the winners of the fifth annual "Science of Sports" science fair and presented 15 scholarships at Sunday's event at Gillette Stadium.
Raytheon Company and the New England Patriots celebrated the fifth annual “Science of Sports” Science Fair at Gillette Stadium Sunday by awarding scholarships to participants of the three teams that best demonstrated the principles of math and science in sports: Swing Masters from Nashua, N.H., Catapult Court CEOs from Hudson, and GPA +1 from Lawrence. The Grand Prize winners of the science fair was the “Swing Masters” from the Nashua, N.H. Club. Science fair begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the Putnam Club East of Gillette Stadium.
For the last five months, students from 17 New England Boys & Girls Clubs have participated in the fifth annual “Science of Sports” Science Fair, a youth outreach and mentoring program that uses sports as a context to teach the principles of math and science. On Sunday that interactive and exciting program is coming to Foxborough with more than 120 “Science of Sports” middle school students from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire Boys & Girls Clubs and their Raytheon mentors competing at The Putnam Club East of Gillette Stadium. As part of National Engineers Week, Raytheon, with the help Science from Scientists, brought science to life for hundreds of children Thursday at The Hall at Patriot Place.
Science came to life in Foxborough Thursday as a group of scientists entertained hundreds of children with demonstrations like Rainbows of Fire, Elephant Toothpaste and a bed of nails inside the Raytheon Theater of the Hall at Patriot Place Presented by Raytheon. The event, hosted by Raytheon, celebrated National Engineers Week - Feb. 17-23 - with Engineering Day at the Hall. Scientists from the organization, Science From Scientists, led the hour-long demonstration inside the Raytheon Theater, introducing children to the fascinating world of math and science. Children are invited to participate in Raytheon's free event at the Patriots Hall of Fame Thursday.
On Thursday, Feb. 21, The Hall at Patriot Place and partner Raytheon will celebrate National Engineers Week with an Engineering Day at The Hall featuring Science from Scientists. The Hall will host a pair of free two-hour programs appropriate for children at least 10 years old. Both sessions will feature an hour-long interactive show, with an additional hour to tour The Hall and enjoy light refreshments. Kids will experience up-close experiments like Chemiluminescence (or how chemicals can glow in the dark), Elephant Toothpaste (or how catalysts speed up reactions), Rainbows of Fire (or how fireworks become different colors) and then cheer on a scientist as he lies on a bed of nails.
