RECIPE: Make Your Own Pizza

This can be fun for the kids, the family and guests. Just think of all the different topping combinations.

To make great home-made pizza, you don't need a fancy pizza stone (a cookie sheet will do), or a pizza oven (my regular one worked just fine) or expensive ingredients (I used leftover cooked asparagus and some extra goat cheese), or a gourmet dough recipe that takes a day to make (I used Jiffy brand pizza dough).  What you do need is a good appetite and family and friends to enjoy that hot-out-of-the-oven taste and smell of home-made pizza. Next time, I'll invite some friends over and have a variety of toppings for them to choose from to make their own pizzas. Sounds like a party to me. Spinach, strawberries, jicama and a light, fresh dressing come together to make this fresh salad perfect for any day when the sun is shining. Have fun sharing this easy salad recipe with everyone. With a slight sweetness to the dressing and delicious seasonal ingredients that provide flavor with a crunch, this salad will please all audiences. Nicole Mooradian, local editor of the Redondo Beach, Calif. Patch, shares her recipe for an easy summer fruit cobbler. "My family has been in the fruit business for generations, and we've spent a lot of time searching for the best fruit cobbler," Mooradian said. "We found it in Bradley Ogden's Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner cookbook, and we've been using it ever since, albeit with a few modifications. "Why do we like it so much? The flour and sugar in the fruit mixture, as well as the dough in the middle of the cobbler, absorb the juices, making the dish even more flavorful.
