Raytheon and the New England Patriots announced the winners of the fifth annual "Science of Sports" science fair and presented 15 scholarships at Sunday's event at Gillette Stadium.
Raytheon Company and the New England Patriots celebrated the fifth annual “Science of Sports” Science Fair at Gillette Stadium Sunday by awarding scholarships to participants of the three teams that best demonstrated the principles of math and science in sports: Swing Masters from Nashua, N.H., Catapult Court CEOs from Hudson, and GPA +1 from Lawrence. The New England Patriots selected three defensive players from Rutgers in the 2013 NFL Draft, including two in the secondary. Eight picks after selecting Logan Ryan in the third round (83rd overall), the Patriots selected Ryan’s teammate, Duron Harmon with the 91st pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. New England Patriots running back Leon Washington visited rehabbing victims of the Boston Marathon bombings this week while Stevan Ridley recruited four of his teammates to play dodgeball for charity last weekend in Fall River.
Players of the New England Patriots continue to reach out and offer support to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. The latest act of kindness from the team came on Tuesday, when recently signed running back Leon Washington visited patients and victims from the Marathon tragedy at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Boston. “It means a lot for me to come here and it definitely gives me a whole different perspective on life,” Washington said during a segment of Patriots Today with Brian Lowe. … “As a team we play together and really, our heart goes out to [the patients recovering from injuries suffered in the Marathon bombings].” Washington spoke with both victims of the Marathon tragedy and other patients at Spaulding …

Science fair begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the Putnam Club East of Gillette Stadium.
For the last five months, students from 17 New England Boys & Girls Clubs have participated in the fifth annual “Science of Sports” Science Fair, a youth outreach and mentoring program that uses sports as a context to teach the principles of math and science. On Sunday that interactive and exciting program is coming to Foxborough with more than 120 “Science of Sports” middle school students from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire Boys & Girls Clubs and their Raytheon mentors competing at The Putnam Club East of Gillette Stadium. Over the course of the off-season, wide receiver has become a position of need for the New England Patriots. After trading out of the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots chose Southern Mississippi outside linebacker Jamie Collins with the team’s first pick in the second round (52nd overall). “Jamie [Collins] is an interesting guy that came into college as a safety, played inside linebacker, played outside linebacker in a 3-4 and then played defensive end last year,” said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. “He’s been a very productive player in the kicking game. In just 72 hours, fans meet Kraft family's challenge to raise $100,000 for victims of the Boston Marathon victims.
One day after the tragic attacks on the Boston Marathon, the Kraft family pledged to match the first $100,000 raised through donations to their charitable foundation for The One Fund Boston to aid hundreds of victims most affected by the bombings. Less than three days later, contributions by New England Patriots and New England Revolution fans exceeded that total.
