Playoff football returns to Foxborough on Sunday, which is good news for the town and most local business owners who cash in on the extra revenue provided by the additional Patriots games played at Gillette Stadium.
During the 2010 season, the New England Patriots were positioned for a deep playoff run as the AFC’s number one seed but were upset by the rival New York Jets in the AFC Divisional Round at Gillette Stadium on Jan. 16, 2011. The early postseason exit left local business owners expecting to cash in on another Patriots playoff run disappointed. “Regardless of what time a year it is, we look forward to the prospect of hosting another game,” Mark Jeffery, general manager of the Renaissance Hotel and Spa at Patriot Place told Foxborough Patch following the Jan. 16, 2011 loss to the Jets. “I think most businesses here at Patriot Place will agree that [the 2010 postseason] was a missed opportunity." By contrast, the Patriots – and local …

The New England Patriots fell to 3-3 on the season Sunday after a stunning, 24-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
What happened Sunday in Seattle is becoming an alarming trend for the most successful organization in the NFL over the past decade. The Patriots (3-3) are having trouble winning close games. It's a concept we in New England have not become too accustomed to throughout the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era ... but after six weeks, that's the reality of the 2012-13 Patriots season. All of the Patriots three losses this year have come in the fourth quarter. In Week 2, the Arizona Cardinals beat the Patriots 20-18 in Foxborough after New England missed a game-wiinning field goal attempt. The next week in Baltimore, the Ravens beat the Pats on the game's final possession with a game-winning field goal of their own as time expired. On Sunday, the…

It’s Week 3 in the NFL as the New England Patriots travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens in a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game. Here's what you need to know about today's game.
Two of the top teams in the AFC meet Sunday night on national television (NBC) when the New England Patriots take on the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Kick-off is 8:20 p.m. In a rematch from last year’s AFC Championship game, which the Patriots won 23-20, both teams enter Sunday’s matchup at 1-1 after the Pats and Ravens dropped close, dramatic games last week. The Ravens lost at Philadelphia, 24-23, while the Patriots lost their home opener to the Cardinals in Foxborough, 20-18. The Pats enter Week 3 tied atop the AFC East with each team in the division posting a 1-1 mark through Week 2. Last Sunday's loss marked just the second regular season loss for the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in the team's past 26 contests (…

The New England Patriots Alumni Club presented Kyle Florio, a deaf Pop Warner football player in Franklin, with a $2,000 check last month to go towards his family's $7,000 goal to hire an American Sign Language interpreter for Florio to understand plays.

Editor's note: The following was written by Zach Groen. Kyle Florio gazed out on the field at Gillette Stadium and tried to focus on his team’s scrimmage during halftime of the New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles Monday Night Football preseason matchup on Aug. 20. Although Florio wasn’t in pads for the contest, he donned his Franklin Chargers jersey and cheered on his teammates from the sidelines. While every Pop Warner player dreams of playing a game under the lights in an NFL stadium such as Gillette, Kyle is focused on simply playing. Born deaf like his father, mother and two brothers, Kyle has a big hurdle to take on before he can return to the football field. Kyle requires an American Sign Language interpreter to relay plays …

Foxborough residents and Patriots season ticket holders attended the sixth annual Gillette Stadium Patriots practice event. Check out the following scenes from Wednesday's practice.
Foxborough has seen record crowds attend the start of the New England Patriots Training Camp this summer and Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium was no different. The Patriots announced shortly after its sixth annual in-stadium practice for season ticket holders and Foxborough residents that 22,633 fans were in attendance – the largest ever crowd for an in-stadium practice. The previous record was set last summer with a crowd of 18,334. Some Foxborough Patch readers that were in attendance Wednesday were kind enough to share their thoughts and experiences with us on Foxborough Patch’s Facebook page. Evan Cardullo said: “Great time! I’ve lived here for three years and this was my first time at the Gillette practice. I really liked that Mr. …
