Foxborough’s Snow Budget Maxed Out with Another Storm on the Way

Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill said if the forecast holds the department will be ready for another weekend of snow removal.

For instant updates on weather, storm news (and more!), sign-up for our e-mail newsletter and follow Foxborough Patch on Facebook and Twitter! February is proving to be an expensive month for Foxborough as two straight weekends of snow has wiped out the town’s snow and ice removal budget with another potential storm on the way. The Blizzard of 2013 cost the town roughly $153,000 and last weekend’s snowfall further depleted the remaining funds. “Whatever was left [in the snow and ice removal budget after the Blizzard of 2013] was eaten up last weekend,” Hill said. “So [Town Manager] Kevin [Paicos] and [Financial Director] Randy [Scollins] briefed the Advisory Committee [Wednesday night] so legally we can overspend for any additional snow …

More Snow in Foxborough’s Forecast This Week

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning and Saturday into Sunday.

As if the 29 inches of snow the Blizzard of 2013 dumped on Foxborough this past weekend wasn’t enough, there’s more snow expected to hit the area Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. “Low to moderate confidence of advisory-level snow – 3 inches or more – for Wednesday night into Thursday morning,” the NWS said in a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement. In Foxborough, snow is likely between 1 and 3 a.m. Wednesday night, which could have an impact on Thursday’s morning commute. "We catch a two day break before more snow tracks toward New England overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning," said WHDH's Chris Lambert. Snow On the Way; Potential for Up to 15 Inches

The storm could be the "biggest of the season," and falls on the anniversary of one of the biggest blizzards ever.

The National Weather Service reports that there is a "chance of snow" every day from Wednesday, Feb. 6 through Friday, Feb. 8 in the area. According to Jim Arnold, weather specialist with the Shrewsbury Management Agency, the brunt of the storm would likely hit the area on Thursday and Friday. "Right now I see little chance of any freezing rain, sleet or ice with this storm," said Arnold, "as the pattern setting up is a cold one and favorable for all snow across inland southern New England. In addition, the model guidance is now coming around to the idea of a significant snowstorm for most of the northeast United States." In addition to the likely snow on Thursday and Friday, an intensifying coastal system will add wind to cause "…

NWS Issues High Wind Watch for Foxborough Area Wednesday

A high wind watch has been issued for Wednesday night because of potentially damaging winds with gusts up to 45 mph.

Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour on Wednesday night could bring down trees and power lines throughout the Foxborough area, warns the National Weather Service. A high wind watch was issued Wednesday by the weather service in Taunton for much of eastern Massachusetts, including Foxborough, because the southwest winds at 20-30 mph could gust to 50-60 mph. The high wind watch means the potential exists for strong and damaging winds in Foxborough. The strong winds could bring down trees and power lines as well as cause property damage, the weather service said. The high wind watch runs from 9 p.m. Wednesday evening through 8 a.m. Thursday morning. “Unsecured outdoor objects may become damaged and/or airborne,” the weather service warned. “…

Snow Expected to Slicken Monday Evening Commute

Forecasters are warning the timing of an approaching snowstorm may make Monday afternoon and evening commute slippery.

There may be an inch of snow on the ground on Monday evening during the evening commute, according to forecasters at WHDH-TV. "Don't expect a ton of snow, but a general 1-3 inches falls late Monday afternoon, through the evening, producing slick roads, perhaps in time for the ride home from work," writes meterologist Chris Lambert in his blog. Even though not much snow will fall, Lambert said that the snow "will create slick spots on the roads Monday evening and Monday night." The National Weather Service forecasts that the snow will start after 3 p.m. in Foxborough with precipitation changing over to sleet later in the evening. Based on the forecast, the weather service has issued a winter weather advisory that runs from 1 p.m. Monday …
