A Good Deed Remembers Those Lost on 9/11

Former Foxborough resident Cindy McGinty and Foxboro Never Forgets founder Chris Mitchell encourage everyone to a good deed today in honor of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

During Saturday’s McGinty Family Fun Day on Foxboro Common, Cindy McGinty and Foxboro Never Forgets founder Chris Mitchell asked the crowd in attendance to remember those who died during the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 by doing a good deed for somebody in the name of a victim. “I think it is really important to do something in [a victim’s name] and if you don’t [know a name], do it in Mike’s name and help keep that day alive … help keep what happened in the immediate minutes after those terrible things on 9/11 that America really did come together,” said McGinty, a former Foxborough resident. PHOTOS: Foxborough Remembers, Celebrates Resident's Life at McGinty Family Fun Day

Hundreds gathered on Foxboro Common Saturday, Sept. 8 to remember and celebrate the life of Mike McGinty, a Foxborough resident who was killed during the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

It's been 11 years this Tuesday since Foxborough resident Mike McGinty was tragically taken from his family and community during the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Since that tragic day, however, McGinty's memory has lived on in community spirit, pride and volunteerism, highlighted by the event, McGinty Family Fun Day, which was held this past Saturday on Foxboro Common. And with the sun shining brightly on a day that many meterologists said would rain, McGinty's wife, Cindy, knew her husband had something to do with the favorable change in forecast. Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis said at Tuesday’s meeting Building Inspector Bill Casbarra and a consultant have been putting together a presentation of “quick fixes” that need to be done at Town Hall immediately “to move in the direction of making it more livable.” DeVellis said the board is expected to hear from Casbarra at its Sept. 18 meeting. McGinty Family Fun Day Set for Sept. 8 on Foxboro Common

Proceeds raised from McGinty Family Fun Day will go towards the McGinty Scholarship Foundation, which is named in loving memory of Michael McGinty, who was killed during the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Cindy McGinty and her family will return to Foxborough on Sept. 8 to hold this year’s McGinty Family Fun Day on Foxboro Common in remembrance of her husband, Michael McGinty, who was killed in the attacks at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 at the age of 42. Michael McGinty’s memory lives on through the annual event on Foxboro Common by offering the community an enjoyable afternoon of fun, food and community service. Entry to this year’s event is $5 per person or $20 per family. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Common. Three bands will be performing at this year’s event – 36 Red, Odyssey and the Brass Daddies and Blood Sweat & Swing. Food will be prepared by Loewen’s Deli. Other attractions include: a …

Cindy McGinty shines light on America's darkest day for the families of Foxborough.

Foxborough Never Forgets founder, Chris Mitchell, Cindy McGinty and Foxborough resident Maria Stephanos of FOX 25 TV, kicked off McGinty Family Fun Day Saturday with heartfelt tributes, words of hope and many thanks to the community of Foxborough.  Proceeds raised from the McGinty Family Fun Day will go towards the McGinty Scholarship Foundation which is named in loving memory of former Foxboro resident Michael McGinty.  The foundation awards two scholarships each year to college bound Foxboro residents to honor McGinty who was killed at the World Trade Center in the September 11, 2001 attacks at the age of 42.

McGinty Family Fun Day will begin at 11:30am and the 9/11 Memorial Dedication will take place at 5:30pm.

McGinty Family Fun Day to be Held Sept. 10

McGinty Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday, September 10th from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on the Foxboro Common.

Nearly 10 years ago, life in the U.S. was permanently altered. Sunday, the country marks the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The September 11 attacks—four coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda on American soil—took nearly 3,000 lives in total and forever changed our lives. Among those was Foxboro resident Michael McGinty, who died in the World Trade Center and left behind his wife, Cindy, and sons Daniel and David. Cindy McGinty, who now resides in Connecticut, and her son David - her other son Daniel is away at college - will be back in Foxborough to observe the tenth anniversary of this national tragedy and for the 2011 McGinty Family Fun Day.
