Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary announced that four members of his department received training at an Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (EVOC) held at the U.S. Coast Guard facility in Bourne on Oct. 10-11. The free preventative training program was designed to enhance police officers’ driving skills, ensure safety of both officers and the public, and save money on the town’s insurance premiums. The EVOC comprehensive training program focuses on the safe operation of emergency vehicles. The course includes intensive classroom training followed by hands-on exercises addressing a number of situations regularly encountered while operating emergency vehicles, such as cornering, evasive maneuvers, braking, and backing up. The Town of Foxborough will see a reduction in its property and casualty insurance costs following a driving safety course conducted with 18 members of the police department. Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), the town’s property and casualty insurance provider, offered the training free of charge as a membership benefit. Upon completion of this and other MIIA training programs, the town is eligible to receive insurance premium credits through the MIIA Rewards Program. As part of its commitment to safety and controlling costs, the town of Foxborough has received a $5,000 grant that will be used to purchase a trench box and trench safety equipment. The modular aluminum shoring system will be used by the department of public works when repairing and installing manholes. Trench boxes are used to stabilize work areas and prevent soil collapses that may occur when working in trenches. “The well being of our employees and residents is a top concern,” said Town Manager Kevin Paicos. “This equipment will help ensure both employee and public safety, and we are grateful to MIIA for making the grant available.” The Loss Control Grant is from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), the …
