Possible Foxborough Casino Stirs Local Response

Foxborough residents make their voice heard on possible casino development, both for and against.

Social media played a strong role Saturday in Foxboro as over 150 Foxborough community residents gathered together to protest a proposed casino in town. Foxborough residents Stephanie Crimmons and Liz Karzonen, spearheaded and coordinated the effort with only 24 hours notice after receiving information from a reliable source that Patriots Owner, Robert Kraft and Las Vegas Casino developer, Steve Wynn, were scheduled to meet to discuss issues related to the proposed project.  According to the Boston Globe, Kraft is in negotiations with Wynn to propose a $1 billion casino near Gillette Stadium, which would also include a hotel, retail, restaurants, and large entertainment facilities. Foxborough School Committee Endorses Contracts

Almost all Foxborough school employees will receive no new raises this school year.

The Foxborough School Committee has endorsed a set of contracts for the new school year. According to the Sun Chronicle, close to all Foxborough School employees will receive no new raises this school year. Members of the Foxboro Education Association including teachers, guidance counselors, nurses, social workers and therapists will receive new raises next year. The new raises in the next school year will add on 2 percent to next year's budget, approximately $319,253 said School Business Administrator Paul Jackson in the report. The district's educational assistants, who negotiate a separate contact, will add $35,338 more. The town of Foxborough gathered Saturday to honor Michael McGinty and all those lost on 9/11.

The town of Foxborough gathered at the Public Safety Building Saturday evening for the dedication of the town's 9/11 memorial. The evening dedication followed Foxborough's "McGinty Family Fun Day." Proceeds raised from McGinty Family Fun Day goes towards the McGinty Scholarship Foundation which is named in loving memory of former Foxboro resident Michael McGinty.  The foundation awards two scholarships each year to college bound Foxboro residents to honor McGinty who was killed at the World Trade Center in the September 11, 2001 attacks at the age of 42. Butterfly Landing Family Child Care in Foxborough is providing early childhood education in the comforts of home. Laura Feeney, who operates Butterfly Landing Family Child Care out of her home, believes that "by caring for and teaching children in a home setting, provides extra one-on-one attention to each child." "I am not just a babysitter. I am trying to create a program and curriculum around the child's needs," said Feeney in a one-on-one interview with Patch. Kenny Chesney's August 28 show at Gillette Stadium has been rescheduled to Friday, August 26 due to Hurricane Warnings.

Although Hurricane Irene is still a distance away from Foxborough, Country music superstar, Kenny Chesney, is taking no chances when it comes to his fan's safety.
