Foxborough Official Hopes to Reopen Negotiations with the Kraft Group

Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis has reached out to the Kraft Group through Town Counsel Richard Gelerman with hopes of reopening negotiations with the company regarding development along Route 1.

Four weeks after the Kraft Group informed Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen it would no longer be pursuing negotiations regarding development along Route 1, town officials have reached out to the company in hopes of reopening talks. “I reached out [to the Kraft Group] through [Foxborough Town Counsel Richard Gelerman] to put a line out there and see if there is an interest in talking,” said Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis. “At the same time [the Kraft Group was] doing [reaching out] through [Gelerman] back to me and it was nice to see that we do have some mutual interests to at least sit down and figure out the best way to move forward for everybody.” DeVellis said there were two schools of thought when Dan Murphy, vice …

Kraft Group Not Revisiting Plans for a Casino in Foxborough; Dismisses ‘False’ Reports

The Kraft Group refuted reports in Thursday's Foxboro Reporter and Sun Chronicle saying the company may be looking to revisit plans for a casino if proposed zoning changes are approved by the town's voters.

The Kraft Group delivered a clear message Thursday to anyone concerned the company’s pursuit of zoning changes to property along Route 1 could reopen the possibility of a casino coming to Foxborough. “We are not pursuing a casino,” said Jeff Cournoyer, spokesman for The Kraft Group. “We are honoring the town’s position on that, as we said we would from the very beginning.” Voters said “no” to the possibility of a casino being developed across from Gillette Stadium on Route 1 in Foxborough at May’s Town Election after months of heated debate over whether or not the proposal should even be heard. Following the May 7 election, the Kraft Group responded with the following statement on Tuesday, May 8: “When the Commonwealth of Massachusetts …

Jeremie, I don't even know where to start after reading this article. It was irresponsible for the Foxboro Reporter to allow an article to be published with merely hearsay. If in fact the reporter was unable to attend the Planning Board meeting and was reporting a conversation he had with Mr Grieder, then that should have been clearly stated in the article. It is neither factual nor concise, …   more ›

Adding More Liquor Licenses on Route 1 Concerns Foxborough Selectmen

Foxborough selectmen voice their concerns with the Kraft Group’s interest in acquiring two package store liquor licenses for use on Route 1.

Some members of Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen have expressed concerns with two of the eight liquor licenses the Kraft Group hopes to acquire to further develop Patriot Place and Route 1. The Kraft Group told selectmen during the Sept. 18 BOS meeting it is looking for six all alcohol liquor licenses for restaurants and two package store licenses. It is the latter that have some BOS members concerned. “One of the concerns of the people of Foxborough is they are very hesitant about readily available alcohol in the Route 1 area and [The Kraft Group is] asking for two,” said selectman Virginia Coppola. … “When you are asking the town of Foxborough to go to the special legislation [to acquire liquor licenses] … I’m a little hesitant. I can …

I'm looking forward to hearing more details. Obviously the Kraft Organization would have to give more specifics for these two retailers that would sale alcohol. But at the same time...I don't think everyone should freak out everytime someone request an alcohol license. Patriot Place already has about 12 or 13. It's already a classey entertainment destination so I have a hard time buying that more…   more ›

Week in Review

Week in Review: Kraft Group Owes Town Nothing, Trader Joe’s Opens, Back to School and More

A recap of this week's headlines from Sept. 2-7.

Town Documents Show Kraft Group Doesn't 'Owe' Foxborough Money for Sewer Contrary to popular opinion among some Foxborough town officials, The Kraft Group does not owe the town $7.5 million – or any money for that matter – from a failed proposal involving the development of a waste water treatment facility for the town located at Gillette Stadium, according to town documents. In 2007, the Kraft Group and the town of Foxborough successfully negotiated the development of Patriot Place and with it the town has received annual town revenue of $3 million. However, five years and millions in revenue has not changed the perception of some town officials that The Kraft Group “owes” Foxborough $7.5 million for what they consider to be false …
