PHOTOS: Foxborough’s Moment of Silence for Marathon Victims

A small crowd of residents joined Foxborough Police and Fire in front of the Public Safety Building Monday for a moment of silence in remembrance of the victims from last week’s attacks on the Boston Marathon.

The wind whipping through an American flag flying at half-mast was the lone source of sound on a sunny spring day in front of the Foxborough Public Safety Building for one minute Monday to honor the victims of the Marathon bombings. A small and solemn crowd joined members of the Foxborough police and fire departments in front of the public safety building at 2:50 p.m. to join Boston and other communities around the state in a moment of silence to remember those affected by the deadly bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon exactly seven days later. Those gathered quietly remembered the victims and prayed for the families of those who lost their lives and those who remain hospitalized following the attacks. “We continue to pray…

Hundreds of Kraft Employees Stand as ‘One Boston’ on Gillette Stadium Turf for Marathon Victims

Employees of the New England Patriots, New England Revolution and other Kraft Group entities stood on the Gillette Stadium turf and spelled out “1 Boston” following Monday’s moment of silence at 2:50 p.m. for the victims of last week’s tragedy.

BOSTON, MA -- As communities paused Monday for a moment of silence to remember the victims of last week’s attacks on the Boston Marathon, roughly 300 Kraft employees gathered on the turf of Gillette Stadium to collectively observe the solemn occasion. Following the one minute of silence at 2:50 p.m., the hundreds of employees spelled out “1 Boston” to show support to everyone affected by last week’s tragedy. “Since we knew we would have a large group of staff gathered, we decided to take some time after the moment of silence to make a statement of support and solidarity with everyone affected by the tragedy a week ago and the events since,” said Kraft Group spokesman Jeff Cournoyer. The “1 Boston” was comprised of approximately 300 …

With indemnity agreement now in place, Foxborough officials turn focus to negotiating liability insurance with MIIA and the Kraft Group.

Foxborough's Board of Selectmen Tuesday unanimously approved a motion to acknowledge an indemnity agreement has been reached between the town and the Kraft Group for New England Revolution soccer games and three summer concerts - Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift (two shows) and Kenny Chesney (two shows). "This has …

Paicos: Town, Kraft Group ‘Very Close’ on Indemnification Agreement for Gillette Stadium Events

Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday to extend the deadline for the Kraft Group to provide a new indemnification agreement before the town issues licenses for this summer’s Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi and Kenny Chesney concerts and soccer season.

Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos told selectmen Tuesday the town and Kraft Group are “getting very close” to an agreement on a new indemnification agreement for events at Gillette Stadium. “We are still negotiating but an agreement is very close,” Paicos said. “I’ve been told through counsels there’s a lot of good work going on. Everybody is very confident it is going to get pulled together. We just need a little bit more time.” Kraft Group attorney James Cobery, who was present for Tuesday’s New England Revolution public hearing, told selectmen he agreed with Paicos’ assessment of the negotiations. Paicos says while an agreement is “not quite there” the negotiations are “going very well” and could be done in “another week or two.” “It…

Selectmen Set March Meeting With Kraft Group to Discuss Future Development

The Kraft Group is expected to meet with Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen in March to discuss development opportunities along Route 1.

Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis has kept an open dialogue with the Kraft Group since the company informed town officials in October it would no longer be pursuing negotiations regarding Patriot Place expansion. In January, DeVellis told the board he had productive conversations with the Kraft Group and felt both sides were able to “clear the air” on several issues, including last year’s casino debate. “I thought I would take this opportunity to put it on the table and ask people to move forward as we close the door on last year,” DeVellis said in January. “Each topic that comes before [the Board of Selectmen] should be judged on its merit with the history behind us and not in front of us. … “We can each reach our goals …

UPDATED: Kraft Group Offers Town Legal Defense in Protective Custody Lawsuit

Company would provide Foxborough with legal representation to defend the town and Police Chief Edward O’Leary as well as cover the costs of the attorney but would not pay for damages owed if town lost lawsuit.

Editor's note: This article was updated to include comments from Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis on Jan. 30, 2013 at 12:11 p.m. Facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly holding people “unlawfully” in protective custody during Gillette Stadium events, the town reached out to its largest business partner for assistance. Foxborough, through attorney John Davis of Pierce, Davis & Perritano, LLP, reached out to the Kraft Group in November to ask if the company would be indemnifying the town in the Weldner/Dutton lawsuit against Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary and the town of Foxborough. “The town has an indemnification policy in place provided by the Kraft Group that protects the town during stadium events," …

Paicos: Regional Sewer District Could Effectively End Water & Sewer Dispute with Kraft Group

Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos says approval of the proposed regional sewer district involving Foxborough, Mansfield and Norton would effectively end an ongoing dispute with the Kraft Group over funds for a sewer treatment plant never built.

As selectmen prepared to hear the finance plan for the proposed regional sewer agreement with Mansfield and Norton Tuesday, Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos shared some “happy” news with the board. “There’s a very happy circumstance [that would result from Foxborough voters authorizing the intermunicipal agreement (IMA) to form a regional sewer district with Norton and Mansfield],” Paicos said. That “happy circumstance,” according to Paicos, is the regional sewer district, which would likely allow Foxborough to finally move on from an ongoing dispute with the Kraft Group involving money believed to be owed for a wastewater treatment plant never built. “This [IMA] removes an obstacle that has created great tension between us and let’s …

Foxborough Officials Clear the Air with Kraft Group; Look to ‘Close Door’ on 2012

Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis shared his findings from a recent meeting with the Kraft Group to board members Tuesday.

Despite recent reports to the contrary, Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis dispelled any rumors that a casino in Foxborough will remain an issue until the state’s gambling licenses are issued. “I was told specifically [by the Kraft Group] they are not pursuing a casino in Foxborough despite the recent newspaper articles,” DeVellis told the board at Tuesday’s meeting. In the Jan. 10 Foxboro Reporter article, “Casino still on the radar in 2013,” two selectmen – Mark Sullivan and Virginia “Ginny” Coppola – each expressed personal concerns that last year’s casino issue hasn’t "gone away.” The Kraft Group and developer Steve Wynn suspended efforts to bring forth a casino proposal to Foxborough after Coppola and selectman …

My comments may have come across more sarcastic than I intended. I do give Mr. DeVillis lots of credit for bringing it together from beginning to end and I am impressed with how he does it. I was just saying that both sides has postured for too long and it is nice to see some 2013 starting off on the right foot.   more ›
