September Home Sales Down in Foxborough

Foxborough had an 18 percent decline in September sales.

The town of Foxborough saw a decrease in the number of homes sold in September, according to data released this week. The data, compiled by real estate information firm The Warren Group, showed an 18 percent decline in September sales, from 11 to nine. Year to date sales are down from 91 to 88. Foxborough saw its home sales decline from 13 last year to 10 last month, according to data released this week. The data, compiled by real estate information firm The Warren Group, also showed that year to date, sales remained steady at 70. The state, though, saw its first year-over-year increase in home sales since January. There were 3,847 homes sold last month, up from 3,590 in July 2010. Banker & Tradesman Managing Editor Cory Hopkins said in a statement that the increase was a positive sign, but not overly so. "While it's encouraging to see sales rise in July, we're comparing statistics to a very rough month of July last year," he said. "The expiration of the homebuyer tax credits hurt sales volume a year ago, which is skewing the …

According to the data, the state saw 4,313 homes sold in the month, down from 5,639 last year. Warren Group CEO Timothy Warren said in a statement that, although some of the decline could be attributed to the expiration of the homebuyer tax credit, that was not the whole story. "This year's sales slump is carrying on as we compare the level of home sales in 2011 to …
