Some of it is naughty but much of it can be nice. “When party planning during the holidays, it’s important to have variety,” says Stacy Kennedy, MPH, RD, CSO, LDN, a nutritionist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. “Many of the foods we enjoy around the holidays are not only delicious to eat, but they may also contain cancer-fighting nutrients.” Kennedy says it’s easy to include them in any menu when you know what to look for. Blue laws prohibit retailers from opening before midnight on Black Friday.
Black Friday is starting earlier than ever, as some national retailers have announced they will open the night of Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 22. However, here in Massachusetts, state blue laws prohibit stores from opening until midnight, according to a report by the Boston Globe. Current blue laws prohibit retailers in the state from opening on Thanksgiving, thus preventing them from getting an early start on Black Friday sales, according to the Globe article. Some exceptions are restaurants, health care facilities and gas stations. The Holiday Shoppe will take place Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Taylor Elementary School.
Children can shop for holiday gifts while helping Foxborough families in need this Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Taylor Elementary School. The Taylor School cafeteria will be transformed into a present-filled shopping wonderland where kids of all ages can select holiday gifts for family members and other loved ones. The Holiday Shoppe features a wide-variety of items priced $5.00 and under. New this year is an expanded offering of gifts for pets. The profits from the Holiday Shoppe are donated to the Foxboro Discretionary Fund to help families in need in our community.
