Foxborough High School’s seniors led the Warriors to a 46-30 win over Canton Friday to close the regular season with a 13-5 record.
It wasn’t pretty, but the Foxborough High School girls’ basketball team, led by its seven seniors, gritted out a 46-30 victory over Canton on senior night. “It was nice we could get everybody in there so everybody could feel part of the win tonight,” said Foxborough head coach Lisa Downs. “It wasn’t a pretty win but we’ll take it. Lucky number 13 I guess.” Downs said senior night can often bring a different type of chemistry to the game but Foxborough was able to overcome some sloppy play early to close out a 16-point victory over two-win Canton. “The seniors are feeling a little nostalgia and it’s not your typical basketball game that you see on a Friday night,” Downs said. “We definitely had some sloppiness out there and we had some …

Foxborough lost 78-70 in overtime after leading Stoughton by 14 heading into the fourth quarter Thursday.
For three quarter, the Foxborough High School boys’ basketball team was in control, leading Stoughton 47-33 with eight minutes to go. But Stoughton thrived on the urgency of the moment and applied an aggressive style of basketball absent through 24 minutes. The shift in momentum caught Foxborough off-balance. “I thought we went into a shell [in the fourth quarter],” said Foxborough head coach CJ Neely. … “The way we played throughout the whole game was the way to beat them and we were the aggressor for 95 percent of the game but then in the last minute-and-a-half they took the aggressive side of things.” Stoughton outscored Foxborough, 28-14 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, highlighted by Stoughton captain Mauro Oliveira’s 3-…

The Hornets tallied 35 second half points to defeat Foxborough, 56-37.
The Mansfield High School girls' basketball team snapped their two-game losing streak on Tuesday evening, as the Hornets tallied 35 second half points to defeat Foxborough, 56-37. “The score is no where near indicative of the competitiveness of this game,” said Mansfield head coach Mike Redding. Foxboro’s junior guard Andrea Marcotte handed out three assists, and tallied three points herself following the opening tip, which gave the Warriors a comfortable 10-2 lead halfway through the first quarter. However, Mansfield cut the deficit to 10-9 before the buzzer sounded, as junior Gina Stoyle recorded a basket before senior Kaitlyn McCarthy, (seven points) sank a trifecta, which pulled the Hornets to within one point. “We thought they were …

Andrea Marcotte led the Warriors with 11 points. Candace Steadman had 18 points for the Tigers.
It was no secret that Foxborough’s matchup against Oliver Ames was going to be one of their more challenging games of the year. The Tigers have been on a streak all season with only one loss that was by one point against Franklin. “We knew that it was going to be a tough game. We had to play our best defense and have our best offense and we didn’t tonight,” Foxborough head coach Lisa Downs said. With good perimeter shooting and open looks, the OA Tigers had no problem beating the Foxborough Warriors, 58-30, in Foxborough. The Warriors were able to take an early 5-4 lead due to a three pointer and two free throws from Andrea Marcotte (11 points) but that would be the last time the Warriors would hold a lead during the game. A 16-2 run by …

Unselfish play and defense led to a Tiger victory. OA improves to 6-4 while Foxborough drops to 3-8.
Unselfish play and solid defense were keys for the Oliver Ames boys' basketball team Thursday night when they defeated the visiting Foxborough Warriors to stop a four game skid and improve to 6-4. The 64-49 win was OA's first since the then-undefeated Tigers won the Valentine Muscato Tournament on Dec. 30. "It’s been a while," OA head coach Don Byron said. "We’ve had a couple of tough games here in the last few weeks and it’s good to just get the feeling back of winning a basketball game. I thought we did a lot of things to get us to that point." The Tigers never trailed throughout the game, playing solid defense while guards Andrew Reardon (10 points) and Nick Bruha (16 points) dispersed the ball to seven different scorers, including …

Ally Perry and DJ Quadrozzi both had eight points in the 54-37 loss to the Panthers.
The score may not say it but the Foxborough girls’ basketball team played better than expected against a talented Franklin Panthers team. Despite the 54-37 loss to the Panthers, the Warriors managed to show improvement against an undefeated Franklin team. “I’m looking at that as a win. I was very very happy with what the girls showed me tonight,” Foxborough head coach Lisa Downs said. Still playing center, Ally Perry continued to thrive in a position that she is not accustomed to. The junior forward who is who has been forced to play center due to injuries brought down 13 rebounds along with eight points to kept the Warriors in the game during the first quarter. “She’s doing well in there. It's a new role for her this year.“ Downs said. “…

The Foxborough Warrior boys' basketball team looks to leave their mark in one of the most competitive leagues in the state.
If not for the controversial Sullivan Rule that gives tournament births to teams with a record above .500, against teams in their division or lower despite their overall record, the Foxborough Warriors could of never snuck into the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional Tournament with only four wins. One year later, the Warriors are looking to make a bigger impact with a stronger team and more experienced leadership. The Warriors already have a game under their belt with an 82-18 win over Hampden Charter of Chicope. Normally a team would feel good about holding a team to 18 points, but the toughest challenges have yet to come for Foxborough. “They’re feeling good about themselves, but they understand that Friday night is going to be a lot …
