Foxborough’s Snow Budget Maxed Out with Another Storm on the Way

Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill said if the forecast holds the department will be ready for another weekend of snow removal.

For instant updates on weather, storm news (and more!), sign-up for our e-mail newsletter and follow Foxborough Patch on Facebook and Twitter! February is proving to be an expensive month for Foxborough as two straight weekends of snow has wiped out the town’s snow and ice removal budget with another potential storm on the way. The Blizzard of 2013 cost the town roughly $153,000 and last weekend’s snowfall further depleted the remaining funds. “Whatever was left [in the snow and ice removal budget after the Blizzard of 2013] was eaten up last weekend,” Hill said. “So [Town Manager] Kevin [Paicos] and [Financial Director] Randy [Scollins] briefed the Advisory Committee [Wednesday night] so legally we can overspend for any additional snow …

More Snow in Foxborough’s Forecast This Week

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning and Saturday into Sunday.

As if the 29 inches of snow the Blizzard of 2013 dumped on Foxborough this past weekend wasn’t enough, there’s more snow expected to hit the area Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. “Low to moderate confidence of advisory-level snow – 3 inches or more – for Wednesday night into Thursday morning,” the NWS said in a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement. In Foxborough, snow is likely between 1 and 3 a.m. Wednesday night, which could have an impact on Thursday’s morning commute. "We catch a two day break before more snow tracks toward New England overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning," said WHDH's Chris Lambert. "Looks like a quick hitter with a few inches of snow possible from Worcester to Boston, with lighter …

Blizzard 2013 Hit Foxborough with Lots of Snow, Few Problems

Foxborough weathered Blizzard of 2013 with power and very few issues.

Unlike other major storms in recent memory, Blizzard 2013 was relatively quiet in Foxborough. There was snow – 29 inches – but Foxborough officials reported few problems during the 48-hour blizzard. Perhaps the best news to come out of Foxborough during Blizzard 2013 was that for the first time in over a year, a major storm in town did not result in massive power outages. In fact, this weekend’s blizzard produced zero power outages – only flickering lights on Saturday night. “It’s amazing,” said Town Manager Kevin Paicos. National Grid’s Foxborough Liaison Tom Coughlin agreed. “It is amazing that we didn’t at least have house services down,” said Coughlin. “I think what happened is when the temperature started to drop the snow gets less …

UPDATE (12:35 p.m.; Feb. 9, 2013) - Foxborough officials received an update at noon Saturday on the town’s condition as Blizzard 2013 starts to move away from the region. Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill said his department’s focus remains on the clearing the main and secondary roads. Trucks are beginning to salt those areas of town. “We will not be doing back roads yet,” Hill said. “I’m not going to touch the sidewalks yet.” Hill said his employees have been out clearing roads for over 40 hours now and at some point they will need to take a significant break. “I would say the guys are going to…

Foxborough Officials Tell Residents to Stay Off Roads Saturday

Town is in good shape overall but roads remain unsafe to travel on.

As residents wake up to over two feet of snow in Foxborough, officials are urging everyone to stay inside Saturday while plows work to clear roads. “The roads in some areas aren’t safe,” said Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary. “The Governor hasn’t lifted the driving ban yet and people should stay home.” O’Leary told Foxborough officials Saturday that his four-wheel drive vehicle got stuck for a period of time on Chestnut Street as he was making his way back to the Public Safety Building. “I got stuck on Chestnut Saturday morning with a four-wheel drive vehicle and a reasonably sane driver,” O’Leary said. “It’s just the drifts. You pull over and you’re in 12 inches of snow. Crucial thing is to limit traffic.” Even with the snow winding…

Paicos: 'Don't Be an Idiot During Blizzard'

Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos says he expects most residents to stay off the roads during Friday's storm but believes there will be "some idiots."

Foxborough Town Manager Kevin Paicos says most of the town will take Friday’s blizzard seriously and stay home and off the roads. “If it is as bad as they say I don’t think anybody is moving on the roads by 8 p.m.,” Paicos said. “I don’t think people will be able to get to and from their homes.” But then there are just some people who are cavalier to caution. “People are not going to be on the roads unless they are complete idiots,” Paicos said. … “Expect the normal drop off in human behavior that come from these events.” The town departments and agencies met Friday morning to outline Foxborough’s emergency preparedness plan for the blizzard. “Sounds like we are really prepared,” Paicos said. “Nothing prepares you like experience and God …
