Around Town: Lakeview Pavilion Donates Over $3K to Boyden Library, Eagle Scout Court of Honor & More

Lakeview Pavilion Charitable Foundation Corporation has donated $3,875 to the Boyden Library gift fund for renewal of the following library passes: Kenneth and Patti Elovitz also donated $350 to the library’s gift fund for the renewal of the Providence Children’s Museum library pass – valid from Jan. 1, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2013. Selectmen approved both donations with gratitude at Tuesday’s meeting. Foxborough resident William Edward Long, Jr. will receive his Eagle Scout rank on Friday, June 7th at 8 p.m. The Court of Honor will be held at Bethany Congregational Church on Rockhill Street. Around Town: Officials No Longer Exploring Saturday Town Meetings; Get Involved with Founders Day & More

Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen announced last week it will no longer be pursuing Saturday Town Meetings. “Topic is officially dead,” said Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis. Selectmen had spent the last several months discussing the possibility of moving future Town Meetings to Saturdays as a way to improve attendance, especially among the senior population, but the concept received little support from the community. “I have heard nothing more [from the community] about [moving Town Meeting to Saturday],” said Foxborough Board of Selectmen vice chair Mark Sullivan. “Other than the first conversation I had in my last election I haven’t heard a thing about it.” Said selectman Lorraine Brue: “I haven’t received any requests for it but I…

Foxborough's Board of Selectmen took a moment before Tuesday's meeting to reflect and pray for those affected by the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. that took the lives of 26 people, including 20 children. "There is absolutely nothing I can say that I’m sure you haven’t thought of," said Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis regarding the school shooting in Connecticut. Around Town: Foxborough Eagle Scout Recognized at Selectmen Meeting, FMF Cheerleaders Seek Donations and More

The Foxborough Board of Selectmen took time at Tuesday’s meeting to recognize local Eagle Scout Tim Smith for his accomplishment and thank him for his volunteerism in town. Smith, a member of Boy Scouts Troop 32, recently achieved the Eagle Scout rank following completion of his project. Smith chose to maintain the burial sites of all veterans at the Rockhill Cemetery in Foxborough to “reflect the respect due to those who served their country,” according to the BOS official citation. “We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the hours of time you have spent organizing this endeavor, along with the assistance of Foxborough’s Veterans Agent Michael Johns and other volunteers,” selectman Lorraine Brue read on behalf of the BOS. …
