What Should Fill This Space on School Street?

What would you like to see done with this building at 20 School St.

Drive around Foxborough long enough and you’re bound to see an empty storefront or vacant building. But do you ever stop to envision what could move into town to fill that opening in town? We do and now we are asking you in our continuing series, "Visions for Vacancies." We'll showcase an empty storefront or building and ask you what should take up the space. This is your place to sound off and have your say about local businesess and open spaces. This week, we turn our attention to empty space at 20 School St. in downtown Foxborough. What would you like to see fill this vacant spot? Let us know what you think in the comment section below!

Love the ice cream shop idea but it needs to be more than that so it can go all winter. Maybe candy, cakes, and treats also with a gift basket theme so people can have them made up as gifts for holidays and other occasions. I know we have Dairy Queen down the street but the idea of a hot summer evening sitting on the common with an ice cream sounds great.   more ›

Local Business Owners Ready to Cash in on Another Patriots Postseason

Playoff football returns to Foxborough on Sunday, which is good news for the town and most local business owners who cash in on the extra revenue provided by the additional Patriots games played at Gillette Stadium.

During the 2010 season, the New England Patriots were positioned for a deep playoff run as the AFC’s number one seed but were upset by the rival New York Jets in the AFC Divisional Round at Gillette Stadium on Jan. 16, 2011. The early postseason exit left local business owners expecting to cash in on another Patriots playoff run disappointed. “Regardless of what time a year it is, we look forward to the prospect of hosting another game,” Mark Jeffery, general manager of the Renaissance Hotel and Spa at Patriot Place told Foxborough Patch following the Jan. 16, 2011 loss to the Jets. “I think most businesses here at Patriot Place will agree that [the 2010 postseason] was a missed opportunity." By contrast, the Patriots – and local …

Living History: Lafayette House has Occupied Foxborough Since 1784

The house has stood in Foxborough for over 229 years.

Ron Young has owned the Lafayette House in Foxborough more than 20 years, but the building itself has been around for a lot longer. Young said the house has been around for 229 years. It was originally the Bristol County Courthouse and stagecoach house called the Everett Inn, even though the property is not in Bristol County. “At some point, the court left,” he said. “This building is not in Bristol County … the building was located here primarily because it’s halfway between Boston and Providence – what a horse does in one day is 20 miles and it’s 20 miles to Providence from Boston. That’s why it was built here. It was once called the halfway house, the white house ... this road out front [Route 1] was the main road.” Young said he is an …
