Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen approved the change of manager application and liquor license transfer at Route 1 Liquor Mart Tuesday.
After more than 40 years in business, Route 1 Liquor Mart owner James Civilinski is retiring and handing over the 29 Washington St. business to his sons, Derek, 40 and Marc, 42. “I often said when I hit 65 I would be fully retired,” Civilinski. “Now I’m 70 and I think it’s time to move on and do other things.” Foxborough's Board of Selectmen reviewed – and approved – the liquor store’s application for change of manager, new officer/director and transfer stock of an all alcohol package store license Tuesday. Masonic Lodge has donated $2,000 to help the Foxborough Recreation Department offset costs to help families who may need financial assistance for their children to attend the town’s summer camp programs. Six college football games will be played at Gillette Stadium this fall.
UMass football is returning to Foxborough this fall for the second year of a three-year commitment to use Gillette Stadium while the Minutemen's new stadium is constructed in Amherst. Foxborough's Board of Selectmen approved the stadium license request at Tuesday's meeting subject to the following conditions: UMass is scheduled to play six home games at Gillette Stadium in 2013, up from five games last season. Games will be held on Saturdays from September to November with the home opener slated for Sept. 7th against Maine. The Minutemen's home schedule for the 2013 season is as follows: Games are scheduled to begin at noon or 3:30 p.m. and anticipated attendance is around 15,000. The board reorganized at Tuesday’s meeting following the April 30th Town Election.
As is customary following a town election, Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen reorganized Tuesday to welcome a new member into the fold and appoint a chairman, vice-chairman and clerk for the coming year. Recently reelected selectman James DeVellis, who served the past year as chairman of the board, said he had “no desire” to remain chairman for the coming year and “would appreciate it if someone would nominate someone” else to the position. “I enjoyed my time … well I didn’t enjoy it all the time … but I appreciate the year as chairman,” DeVellis said.
