Turf Field Supporters Thankful for Town Approval; Excited for Foxborough’s Youth

Foxborough's youth is getting a turf field after the project passed Special Town Meeting Tuesday, 260-129. On Wednesday, supporters James DeVellis and Debra Spinelli thanked the efforts of all those involved in the project.

An appreciative James DeVellis beamed with pride at Foxborough’s Special Town Meeting Tuesday following the town’s approval of the proposed turf field project. For DeVellis and other members of the Turf’s Up committee, Tuesday’s 260-129 vote in favor of building a turf field at Foxborough High School was the culmination of four years of hard work dedicated to a vision inspired by the town’s youth. “I was appreciative that the town shared the sentiment and passion that many have had working on this [proposal],” DeVellis said Wednesday. … “We do not take [Tuesday’s vote of approval] for granted and appreciate it that much more when the residents, businesses and community work together towards something.” DeVellis said he hopes this project …

A Closer Look at Proposed Funding for Foxborough’s Turf Field Project

Here’s a breakdown of how Phase I of the proposed community turf field will be funded if approved at the Dec. 11 Special Town Meeting.

When voters review the proposed community turf field project at the Dec. 11 Special Town Meeting they will be deciding whether or not to appropriate $125,000 from the town’s Overlay Surplus account and use the remaining $1 million from the high school renovation project to help fund the $1,619,000 of the project. "Basically, we are looking at $430,000 between donations, in-kind services and the NFL grant," said Foxborough Schools Business Manager Bill Yukna. "We are looking at $1 million that is the current balance of the high school renovation project, which the town has already funded and appropriated." Furthermore, Foxborough's School Committee voted its Nov. 26 meeting to appropriate $75,000 from the school’s building revolving account…

A Closer Look at Foxborough's Special Town Meeting Warrant

Here's an overview of the 13 warrant articles voters are expected to review at Foxborough's Special Town Meeting on Dec. 11.

Voters at the Dec. 11 special town meeting will review, discuss and decide on 13 warrant articles ranging from police and fire contracts to a proposed turf field at the high school. The lone "big ticket" expected to be voted on at the December meeting is Article 6, the proposed turf field project presented by Turf's Up and sponsored by the School Committee. Voters will be asked to support two phases of the project and appropriate $125,000 from the town's overlay surplus account to fund Phase I of the project – construction of turf field, lights and fencing as well as construction of baseball and softball fields behind the high school. Voters will be asked to vote no action on Article 5, the Town Hall renovation/replacement project to give …

Selectmen Split on Turf Field Project

Foxborough's Board of Selectmen were split in its support of Article 6 of the Special Town Meeting Warrant at its Nov. 20 meeting.

While the school department’s support of a community turf field in Foxborough has been overwhelming the same cannot be said for the town’s Board of Selectmen. On Nov. 20, selectmen were split in their support of Article 6 of the Dec. 11 Special Town Meeting Warrant, voting 2-2. Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis recused himself from the table because he is the chair of the Turf’s Up committee, a community group that has spent the last four years trying to bring a turf field to Foxborough. Selectmen Lynda Walsh and Mark Sullivan expressed support of the turf field project at the Nov. 20 meeting. “This started out as a community project and folks really got behind it and supported it as much as they could,” Walsh said. “$60,000 is a lot…

Town Meeting Date Set; Voters Likely to Decide on Turf Field, Town Hall and Sewer Projects

Foxborough’s Special Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Foxborough High School.

Foxborough’s Advisory Committee has begun the process of reviewing potential warrant articles for December’s Special Town Meeting, which now has a date in place - Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. inside Foxborough High School. However, if that date conflicts with the high school’s use of the facility then Special Town Meeting will be held in the high school on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. The town will close the warrant on Tuesday, Oct. 30, which is the deadline for residents to submit warrant articles for the town’s review. “It does not bind [town officials] from putting something in the warrant,” said Town Manager Kevin Paicos at the Oct. 16 Board of Selectmen meeting. Not expected on December’s Town Warrant are any articles related to …

Foxborough School Committee Clarifies Position on Turf Field Project

The Foxborough School Committee took time at Monday's meeting to clarify it agreed to sponsor a warrant article for the Turf's Up field project but did not agree to fund the project. The article is expected to be presented to Town Meeting voters in Decemb

The Foxborough School Committee voted unanimously Monday to amend the Oct. 1 meeting minutes to more accurately reflect its position on the Turf’s Up field project. “I know the Turf’s Up field project has gotten a lot of press and interest lately and I just want to make sure we reflect accurately the discussion we had at our last meeting,” said school committee member Bruce Gardner. “The comment in the minutes is that I moved and Martha [Slattery] seconded that we work in support of Turf’s Up field project and support funding the project on a town warrant. The word I’m not sure I remember is funding. I wonder if it is better stated that we would support putting forth the project on town warrant.” Committee members agreed. “I think that …

I have great concerns regarding the fundraising efforts for this project. The project has not been approved by the town and having the PTO directly involved with fundraising efforts, see Burrell School news letter, leads us to believe it will be approved. This most certainly is not the case. The argument that they have one so we should have one is absurd. The Burrell School needs a roof, a …   more ›
