Tree Tech ‘About 75 Percent’ Done Clearing 5 Acres for New Athletic Fields Behind Foxborough High

While many are enjoying school vacation this week, Tree Tech and Turf’s Up volunteers are busy clearing five acres of land behind Foxborough High School in preparation for the construction of new baseball, softball and field hockey fields as part of the community turf field project. “We took advantage [of the school vacation] to get some work done to minimize disruption for the kids,” said Turf’s Up president Jim DeVellis. Foxborough Voters Approve Turf Field Project at Tuesday's Special Town Meeting

Foxborough's voters said "yes" to building a community turf field at the high school during Tuesday's Special Town Meeting.

Editor's note: This story will be updated. Foxborough is finally getting a turf field. After years of planning, fundraising and volunteering, Turf's Up's proposal passed its final test Tuesday at Special Town Meeting when 260 of 389 voters said "yes" to Article 6, effectively bringing a community turf field to Foxborough High School. Turf's Up is a local committee comprised of volunteers and chaired by Foxborough resident and Board of Seletmen chair James DeVellis. The committee's vision for a turf field in Foxborough began four years ago and culminated Tuesday night when Article 6 passed Special Town Meeting, 260-129. Turf's Up Provides Informational Brochure on Community Turf Field Project

Residents will decide whether or not the town be getting a turf field at Foxborough High School when they vote on Article 6 at the Dec. 11 Special Town Meeting. Turf's Up has submitted an informational brochure to answer questions about the project.

Foxborough residents attending the Dec. 11 Special Town Meeting at Foxborough High School will decide the fate of the proposed community turf field project (Article 6 on the warrant). Turf's Up, a community group behind the turf field project has spent the past four years putting together a proposal. To help answer several questions about the project, Turf's Up has created an informational brochure that includes reasons why you should vote "yes" on Article 6 on Dec. 11. A Closer Look at Proposed Funding for Foxborough’s Turf Field Project

Here’s a breakdown of how Phase I of the proposed community turf field will be funded if approved at the Dec. 11 Special Town Meeting.

When voters review the proposed community turf field project at the Dec. 11 Special Town Meeting they will be deciding whether or not to appropriate $125,000 from the town’s Overlay Surplus account and use the remaining $1 million from the high school renovation project to help fund the $1,619,000 of the project. "Basically, we are looking at $430,000 between donations, in-kind services and the NFL grant," said Foxborough Schools Business Manager Bill Yukna. "We are looking at $1 million that is the current balance of the high school renovation project, which the town has already funded and appropriated."
