Quiet reflection at 2:50 p.m. Monday will include ringing of church bells and silent observation by Foxborough police and fire personnel at the Foxboro Never Forgets 9/11 Memorial in front of the town’s public safety building.
Foxborough will join the city of Boston and other communities throughout Massachusetts Monday in a moment of silence at 2:50 p.m. – the time two bombs went off on Boylston Street near the finish line of the 117th annual Boston Marathon exactly one week ago. “I am simply asking our residents to stop at 2:50 p.m. on Monday for one minute to reflect quietly regardless of where they are,” said Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis. The minute of silence at 2:50 p.m. will honor the victims and families of those injured and killed by the terrorist attacks. Following the moment of silence, bells throughout Boston and the state, including Foxborough, will ring, according to a statement from Boston Mayor Tom Menino’s office. “In …

Town is in good shape overall but roads remain unsafe to travel on.
As residents wake up to over two feet of snow in Foxborough, officials are urging everyone to stay inside Saturday while plows work to clear roads. “The roads in some areas aren’t safe,” said Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary. “The Governor hasn’t lifted the driving ban yet and people should stay home.” O’Leary told Foxborough officials Saturday that his four-wheel drive vehicle got stuck for a period of time on Chestnut Street as he was making his way back to the Public Safety Building. “I got stuck on Chestnut Saturday morning with a four-wheel drive vehicle and a reasonably sane driver,” O’Leary said. “It’s just the drifts. You pull over and you’re in 12 inches of snow. Crucial thing is to limit traffic.” Even with the snow winding…

Foxborough public safety officials are working with Gillette Stadium management on several initiatives to improve crowd safety and the overall impact Country Fest has on the community.
Editor's note: This is part I of a two-part series that looks into the public safety planning for the 2013 New England Country Music Festival, which will be held at Gillette Stadium on Aug. 23 and 24. Part II will take a closer look at traffic issues from the two-day music festival. Last summer, Foxborough Police made over 100 arrests and reported over 600 incidents over a two-day span during the 2012 New England Country Music Festival at Gillette Stadium. Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary told reporters after the weekend concert series that better preparation led to the 102 arrests and over 500 protective custodies out of a crowd of 103,000 concertgoers that descended on Foxborough for the two-day music festival. “We had a plan, it …

National Grid's Foxborough liaison Tom Coughlin is currently at the Foxborough Public Safety Building providing a direct line of communication between the town and the utility company during Hurricane Sandy.
Tom Coughlin, National Grid’s liaison for Foxborough, told selectmen Monday he expects to see downed trees and branches in Foxborough caused by Hurricane Sandy’s high winds, which may lead to power outages. “Hopefully all the main [utility] lines are clear but I expect we are going to see branches fall on some of the house services and trees on private property,” Coughlin said. Coughlin said his fingers are crossed that Foxborough’s power outages will not be severe. “We are hopefully just going to see little things like downed services, which are easy to repair,” he said. As of 3:30 p.m. Monday, it has been fairly quiet on the power outage front in Foxborough – knock on wood – despite nearly 50,000 National Grid customers in Massachusetts …

Foxborough officials met earlier this week to prepare for the potential arrival of Sandy and are encouraging residents to view the town's newly finished emergency preparedness handbook, available online.
While Hurricane Sandy was temporarily downgraded to a tropical storm Saturday, it is likely to re-intensify to a possible Nor'easter Monday, which could impact Foxborough. Town officials are not taking any chances in their preparations for the potential storm, considering its pending arrival a very serious matter. “Is there such a thing as overreacting when it comes to storm prep? No,” said Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis … “The Town Manager [Kevin Paicos] gave [the Board of Selectmen] a routine update [Thursday] and I was updated as well by Fire Chief [Roger Hatfield] first thing [Friday] morning. [Selectman] Mark Sullivan and I met with the fire chief [Friday] afternoon and he gave us updates on his work.” The topics …

I’m not on here to report an outage, rather to report to our “liaison” that National Grid has once again failed its customers. OK, Mr. Coughlin, write this down……Please go to Mansfield or North Attleboro and learn how to maintain power lines and most certainly learn how to maintain a “union loop”. You see, these two towns have weathered these last three storms very well while your company has …   more ›
