Foxborough High School Band Performs at Sunday's Graduation

The Foxborough High School band performed Sunday prior to the Class of 2013's graduation

Prior to Sunday's graduation, the Foxborough High School band performed for friends and family of the Class of 2013 on the FHS baseball field. Foxborough High School Band Provides Marching Tune on Founders Day

The Foxborough High School marching band showcased its talents during the Founders Day parade.

If a parade is only as good as its marching music than the Foxborough High School marching band delivered for Founders Day this past Saturday. The band provided a few peppy tunes for Founders Day parade participants and onlookers as they made their way around town. Foxborough High Jazz Combo Band Members Share NYC Experience with School Committee

Four members of the Foxborough High Jazz Combo band shared their experiences from the Charles Mingus Competition in New York City and how they got there.

Editor's note: The following was submitted for publication by Foxborough Assistant Superintendent of Schools Dr. Amy Berdos. Foxborough High School Jazz Combo band members Nicholas Adair, Alexa Dumont, Alexander Olsen and Kevin Scollins traveled this spring to New York City to the Manhattan School of Music to compete in the Charles Mingus Competition and recently shared their experiences with the Foxborough School Committee.  The jazz quartet had been selected as one of three finalists in the country in the Combo category.  In order to receive this honor, musicians from around the country must compete in either big bands or small combos and are required to select three Mingus charts to perform and submit a prescreening CD. Music Director Steve Massey has Patiently Built a ‘Culture of Musical Excellence’ in Foxborough

Foxborough High School Music Director Steve Massey was recently featured in School Band and Orchestra Magazine for his role in “Developing a Culture of Musical Excellence” in town.

Foxborough Public Schools is best known for its excellent music program thanks in large part to the patience and leadership of Foxborough High School Music Director Steve Massey. The music culture in Foxborough is a product of three decades worth of patience, support and leadership from Massey, students and the community. That culture, along with Massey, was featured in the March edition of School Band and Orchestra Magazine. Foxborough High School Jazz Combo Heads to NYC for Annual Charles Mingus Festival

The Foxborough High School Jazz Combo will spend the weekend in New York City for the annual Charles Mingus Festival.

Students of the Foxborough High School Jazz Combo got an early start to February vacation Friday as the group of musicians arrived in New York City for the 5th annual Charles Mingus High School Festival & Competition. The festival, produced by Sue Mingus, The Charles Mingus Institute, Justin DiCioccio and the Manhattan School of Music, takes place from Feb. 15-18 in NYC. “This year’s festival will include a film showcase, student jams, a full day of instrumental clinics exploring the music of Charles Mingus, three nights of performances by the Mingus Big Band at Jazz Standard, and the nationwide Competition showcasing young jazz talent from high schools across the country,” according to the Charles Mingus Festival & Competition’s website. …

VIDEO: Foxborough Musicians Delight in 'Voices & Strings’ Concert

Foxborough High School students from the FHS combined choirs, chamber singers, women's A Cappella choir, mixed A Cappella choir and string orchestra performed in the music department's first concert of the school year Tuesday.

Foxborough Superintendent of Schools Debra Spinelli said the high school is known for its music program and elite musicians.  “Our music program is renowned,” Spinelli said in an interview prior to the start of the 2012-13 school year. “They are the most frequent finalists in the Essentially Ellington Jazz Music Festival in New York City. They performed at [President Obama’s] Inauguration. We had three music students audition and make the Grammy band that performs at the Grammy’s. Last year was our third student. … We have elite musicians.” On Tuesday, 102 of those elite musicians were on display in the Foxborough High School auditorium for the Foxboro Music Department’s “A Voices & Strings Concert.” The concert featured performances by …
