The Foxborough School Committee took time at Monday's meeting to clarify it agreed to sponsor a warrant article for the Turf's Up field project but did not agree to fund the project. The article is expected to be presented to Town Meeting voters in Decemb
The Foxborough School Committee voted unanimously Monday to amend the Oct. 1 meeting minutes to more accurately reflect its position on the Turf’s Up field project. “I know the Turf’s Up field project has gotten a lot of press and interest lately and I just want to make sure we reflect accurately the discussion we had at our last meeting,” said school committee member Bruce Gardner. “The comment in the minutes is that I moved and Martha [Slattery] seconded that we work in support of Turf’s Up field project and support funding the project on a town warrant. The word I’m not sure I remember is funding. I wonder if it is better stated that we would support putting forth the project on town warrant.” Committee members agreed. “I think that …

How would you spend Foxborough’s $1 million surplus from the high school’s renovation project?
Voters at Foxborough’s Town Meeting this fall are likely to be asked to approve funding of roughly $500,000 to help build a turf field complex for the community and OK a funding plan for construction of a new Town Hall. But where’s the money coming from? A $1 million surplus from Foxborough High School’s renovation project had been linked to partially funding either the new Town Hall or the turf field project, or both, but Foxborough’s Finance Director Randy Scollins told selectmen last week the surplus cannot be used on the turf field project because the funds can only be used for renovation projects. To date, roughly $260,000 of the $3 million needed has been secured for the turf field project. Town Meeting voters will likely be asked to…

Voters are likely to be asked to approve the turf field article at December’s Town Meeting.
James DeVellis, president of Turf’s Up – a volunteer committee dedicated to bringing a turf field to town, described Monday’s meeting with Foxborough’s School Committee as a “home run.” “The [School Committee] voted [Monday] to sponsor a warrant article for [Fall] Town Meeting to bring it to the voters,” DeVellis said. “I think there’s enough support.” DeVellis, who also chairs the Foxborough Board of Selectmen, met with the school committee Monday to present a revised plan to bring a synthetic turf field and track to Foxborough High School. The turf complex would be used by the community as a whole – from youth to high school sports programs and future FHS graduations. DeVellis said when the committee originally envisioned bringing a turf…

I have great concerns regarding the fundraising efforts for this project. The project has not been approved by the town and having the PTO directly involved with fundraising efforts, see Burrell School news letter, leads us to believe it will be approved. This most certainly is not the case. The argument that they have one so we should have one is absurd. The Burrell School needs a roof, a …   more ›
