Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill said the water department is already “obtaining good data” through its hydrant flushing program for the development of the hydraulic water system.
Foxborough’s hydrant flushing program began Monday and it’s already showing signs of success, according to DPW Director Roger Hill. “We were very successful in obtaining good data for the development of the hydraulic water system model and in cleaning the pipes,” Hill said. “The water system recovered more quickly than we expected and we had only five or six brown water calls Tuesday.” Hill said the system’s quick recovery is the result of new chemicals that were added to the active wells and the clean water being added to the system from the Witch Pond filtration plant. Monday’s flushing schedule included the area of Chestnut Street to Morse Street and from the old camp on Oak Street to Morse Street. On Tuesday, flushing occurred on Oak …

Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill said if the forecast holds the department will be ready for another weekend of snow removal.
For instant updates on weather, storm news (and more!), sign-up for our e-mail newsletter and follow Foxborough Patch on Facebook and Twitter! February is proving to be an expensive month for Foxborough as two straight weekends of snow has wiped out the town’s snow and ice removal budget with another potential storm on the way. The Blizzard of 2013 cost the town roughly $153,000 and last weekend’s snowfall further depleted the remaining funds. “Whatever was left [in the snow and ice removal budget after the Blizzard of 2013] was eaten up last weekend,” Hill said. “So [Town Manager] Kevin [Paicos] and [Financial Director] Randy [Scollins] briefed the Advisory Committee [Wednesday night] so legally we can overspend for any additional snow …

Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill and the town’s Water & Sewer Commissioners joined resident Shannon Sylvia’s Foxboro Cable Access program, Foxboro Biz, to discuss the town’s brown water problems.
Acknowledging that Foxborough residents need answers regarding the town’s problems with brown water, DPW Director Roger Hill and the Board of Water & Sewer Commissioners recently appeared on a Foxboro Cable Access program to discuss the issue. Foxborough resident Shannon Sylvia recently hosted Hill, Water Superintendent Bob Worthley, Water & Sewer Commissioners’ vice chair Michael Stanton and Water & Sewer Commissioners’ clerk Richard Pacella Jr. on her FCA program, Foxboro Biz. “In this segment the DPW and Water and Sewer Commissioners will share information on the current state of Foxborough's water, as well as future plans,” Sylvia said. “The current water situation will be addressed, what is currently being done, timelines for future …

Two Chestnut Street residents write in to extend their thanks and appreciation to everyone at Foxborough’s DPW for the hard work and tireless efforts of the town’s workers.
To the Foxborough DPW workers, We moved to Chestnut Street this past November and just experienced our first major snowstorm in Foxborough we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to each and every one of you for your efforts during – and after – the Blizzard of 2013. While we were waiting out the 29 inches of snow from the warmth of our home, you were all out there keeping up with the blizzard in cold and dangerous conditions. You have worked day and night with little to no rest for over three days just so people like us can get out of our homes and onto the roads. We know some have complained about the town’s roads just a day after the blizzard and we believe that is just not fair criticism. Period. We read the comments on Facebook …
Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis took time Monday to thank the town’s DPW for their efforts during and after Blizzard 2013 and asks residents to show respect for these employees.
As 29 inches of snow fell on Foxborough over the weekend, it was the exhaustive efforts of the town’s DPW workers that helped minimize problems during the Blizzard of 2013. For those efforts, Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis took time Monday to publicly thank the DPW for all they did during the storm and all they continue to do in its aftermath to return Foxborough to normalcy. “I am proud for Foxborough of the hard work and diligence that our DPW and emergency personnel showed all through the storm and thank their families as they gave first priority to our town,” DeVellis said. DeVellis, who met with the DPW early Monday morning, said the crews “are very tired but upbeat” to finish work that began Friday morning and …
How did the town handle the Blizzard of 2013?
Blizzard 2013 produced the region's fifth largest snowstorm in history, yet Foxborough reported very few problems from the two-day storm. For the first time in over a year, a major storm in town did not result in massive power outages. In fact, this weekend’s blizzard produced zero outages – only flickering lights on Saturday night. That was the good news. The bad was Foxborough was part of the "jackpot" area for snowfall in Massachusetts, accumulating 29 inches in town, according to the National Weather Service. That record amount of snowfall left a massive mess for the town's DPW to clean up. Workers hit the roads Friday and plowed day and night through Sunday, taking short breaks to sleep and eat, according to DPW Director Roger Hill. …

"I’m not going to make a decision Saturday," Spinelli said. Foxborough DPW Director Roger Hill and Police Chief Edward O'Leary urge residents to believe the hype surrounding Friday's blizzard.
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for the Foxborough area from 6 a.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday, calling for 18 to 24 inches of snow to slam the region. Foxborough Department of Public Works Director Roger Hill and Foxborough Police Chief Edward O'Leary urge residents to believe the hype surrounding Friday's storm. "This is a big deal," Hill said. "This is a public safety hazard. People say they are just hyping the weather but if I can’t get people out of their houses and the power goes out and stays out, that’s going to be a problem. That could be a catastrophic problem." Fortunately for Foxborough, Hill has plenty of experience handling major storms. The DPW director recalled plowing the Blizzard of '78. "We know…

Foxborough's Department of Public Works issued a statement Thursday to inform residents of the town's parking ban and snow removal and plowing procedures.
With the current weather forecast for Friday predicting over 12 inches of snow, Foxborough's Department of Public Works has issued the following statement on the town's website: "We have not had a storm like this in quite some time. All residents should be aware that deep snow requires the DPW to open up roads initially, and later to push back the drifts to the curb. The reason we must push the snow back is that we need to create room in case there is another storm following the one expected Friday, which frequently happens in February. If we do not push back, there will be no room for the additional snow." The DPW also addressed a common complaint from residents regarding clearing the end of driveways. "People frequently complain that …

Monday’s hike in water and sewer rates is only the beginning of what could be an expensive process to address poor water quality in Foxborough.
Residents fed up with paying for poor water quality will find no silver lining in the Foxborough Water & Sewer Commissioners’ decision to hike water & sewer rates Monday. That’s because the rate increases, which take effect immediately, will not bring any immediate relief to residents experiencing brown water in town. Instead, the newly approved hikes are said to be long overdue and necessary because the town’s enterprise account currently isn’t bringing in enough revenue to cover costs. “The enterprise account is not generating enough money to support the expenses we have,” Foxborough Board of Water & Sewer Commissioners vice-chair Michael Stanton said at Monday’s rate hearing. … “We have kicked the can down the road forgoing increases …
