A report released last week by the Food Research and Action Center said that 15 percent of people in Massachusetts - about one in seven people - could not afford to put food on the table last year.
As food pantries across the region are seeing more and more people in need, a report released last week said about one in seven people in Massachusetts could not afford to put food on the table last year. The report, released by the Food Research and Action Center, a non-profit that looks to wipe out hunger and malnutrition in the United States, said that 15 percent of people in Massachusetts - about one in seven people - did not have enough money to buy food that they or their family needed at some points in 2012. This week, Patch reached out to food pantries who serve the communities of Walpole, Foxborough, Dedham, Norwood, Sharon and Stoughton who all reported a spike in the number of people they serve within the past few years. There's no better time to give back to your community than the holiday season.
Foxborough is a community built on volunteerism and what better way to volunteer in Foxborough than by giving back to others and spreading holiday cheer and warmth in town. Donating your time or giving a special holiday gift to a family or child in need can make a big impact. On May 12, local communities across America will be asked to join the U.S. Postal Service and its letter carriers to combat one of this nation’s growing problems — hunger. The Foxborough Postal Office will be taking part and making the donations to the Foxboro Food Pantry. About 50 million Americans — including 17 million children — now live in families that lack sufficient food. The Postal Service, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), Campbell Soup Company, Feeding America and other partner organizations are working together to collect food donations May 12. CrossFit Torque held a food drive to benefit the Foxborough Food Pantry before the Thanksgiving holiday.
CrossFit Torque, a fitness training center in Foxborough, is not only passionate about fitness but serving their community as well. CrossFit Torque held a food drive to benefit the Foxboro Food Pantry before the Thanksgiving holiday and plan on dropping off the food collected on Thursday. The fitness center also plans on hosting Toys for Tots in mid-December. All the trainers at CrossFit Torque, including Amanda Chace, Kenny Lovetere, Richard Chace and Don Chace are extremely enthustastic about fitness training, as CrossFit is no ordinary workout.
