Foxborough Residents and Officials Voice Opinions to National Grid [POLL]

Foxborough residents and officials make their voices heard to National Grid.

The Foxborough Board of Selectmen held a public question and answer session at Foxborough High School Tuesday to voice their extreme disappointment in National Grid’s lack of response to the power outage in town during the "Halloween" storm. Representatives from National Grid, including National Grid's Liaison to Foxborough, Tom Coughlin, who the town credits as a "true professional," attended the meeting to answer questions and listen to concerns about the October town-wide power outage. Rep. Jay Barrows and Senator James Timilty also addressed the audience with their thoughts on the ongoing "power problems." Senator Timility described National Grid's performance as an "epic failure." In an ironic turn of events, at 6:00pm on Tuesday, …

I attended the meeting last night of the power outage. The Town Officals did a wonderful job and did not let the people from Nat'l Grid run over them. The Nat'l Grid took names of people with real problems but never really answered with a straight answer of the questions asked by the residents. Will the reports requested by the Selectman be available to the residents of Foxboro? Bob   more ›

National Grid crews, aided by crews from as far away as Texas, Michigan, North Carolina and Kansas have made significant progress in restoring power to Massachusetts customers who were affected by the devastating Nor’easter that left more than three million customers from the mid-Atlantic to New England without power.  National Grid has 2,500 workers in their Massachusetts communities from as far away as Texas and Kansas making repairs to the power system,” said Marcy Reed, president, National Grid Massachusetts.  Reed added, “We know this is a hardship for our customers and we’re grateful for their patience as we work to restore their power. Lanie, I am so very sorry for all of you in the Western part of our State. I agree with Steve about getting the lawmakers to step up to the plate to make NG accountable, but that does not help you now. Hoping that you get the help you all need soon.   more ›

Slowly but Surely, Power Being Restored in Foxborough

Over 70 percent of Foxborough is back online; National Grid continues to make progress in town.

Discussions with National Grid have yielded the same answers, similar to Tropical Storm Irene; historic storm, downed trees, heavy wet snow, and tons of debris. National Grid representative, Steve Brady, said Monday that what happened in Foxborough happened in many other communities across the Commonwealth. "We are being told by state folks that it is the worst October storm in history - lots of wet snow on trees, tons of wires down and travel has been difficult," said Brady. "Moving in and around Foxborough Monday I have seen an enormous amount of tree branches on the ground." Brady said that at the peak of the storm, 91 percent of Foxborough lost power. Currently that number stands over 70 percent with their power back; 1,412 out of 7,…

I agree Troy, I live off South St and have yet to see one national grid truck. It's nonsense to even think that they are doing a decent job when I don't see then doing "Any Job"!   more ›

Selectmen Vote No on Town Manager Raise

Town Manager Kevin Paicos details his reasons for a raise.

The Foxborough Selectmen heard a short presentation from Town Manager Kevin Paicos Tuesday on why during an economic crisis should he receive a three-percent COLA raise and a bonus when the rest of the town employees accepted no raises this year. The board voted 3-1 not to give Paicos a raise. Selectman Lorraine Brue casted the lone in favor. Paicos declined to comment on the vote. Chairman of the Board of Selectmen Lawrence J. Harrington said Paicos is looking for a retroactive pay from July 1, since the board was delayed, he was supposed to have given his review in March.  Considering that most municipal employees have agreed to no raises and no new hires this year and next, Harrington noted, “as a leader, it’s hard to ask for a raise." …

Not quite sure how he can rationalize getting a raise when others in the town didn't get one...and, if he doesn't like his salary, he can feel free to go find a town who will pay him what he wants...if he can....unreal.   more ›
