Poll: Should Massachusetts Legalize Fireworks?

After last week's Independence Day celebrations, we want to know what you think about legalizing fireworks in Massachusetts.

However, some took in illegal fireworks shot off by neighbors. While State Senator James Timilty (D-Walpole), who represents Foxborough, has expressed his opposition to legalizing fireworks, Foxborough's State Rep. Jay Barrows is open to the idea, partly because the majority of his constituency that he has talked to is in favor of legalizing fireworks. "I think we need to take a look at it," Barrows said of the issue. Harvard Pilgrim Road Race and Fireworks Kick off 4th of July Celebrations

The annual road race allowed runners to finish inside Gillette Stadium and enjoy fireworks after the race.

With approximately 7,000 runners and an estimated 40,000 spectators for the fireworks, It’s safe to say that the Harvard Pilgrim Finish at the 50 10K/5K and post-race fireworks are going to be around for a long time. In addition to the 10K course, a new 5K was added with a special twist. As the 10K runners began to make their way off stadium grounds towards North Street via the Putnam Way access road, the 5K runners kept going until they reached the Bank of America gate where things got interesting. The rest of the race took runners up the ramp of the stadium to the 300 level and back down on the ramp …

The fireworks came faster and faster for about 10 seconds, then....nothing. Over. My family couldn't believe that 40,000 people sat in horrendous to get in and get out for that pathetic display. For many, the Fourth of July and fireworks go hand-in-hand. However, each year, fire officials warn that, when amateurs and explosives are involved, Fourth of July fireworks very easily leave someone handless – or worse. According to data on a report titled “Leave Fireworks to Pros,” from 2002 to 2011, there were 804 major fire and explosion incidents involving illegal fireworks reported in Massachusetts, which caused one civilian death, 18 civilian injuries, four fire service injuries and an estimated $2.5 million loss.
