Brady and the Offense Shine as Patriots Win Home Opener

Brady led his team to a victory over San Diego in the 2011 home opener at Gillette on Sunday.

The New England Patriots continued their offensive showcase Sunday against the San Diego Chargers in the home opener of the 2011 season. It was a game that had some great moments on both sides of the ball and was certainly the best overall team win the Patriots have had in a while.   The Patriots faced one of the most high powered offenses in the NFL on Sunday in the Chargers. Philip Rivers, Vincent Jackson, and Antonio Gates are all marquee players in the NFL. Below is a look at the great, the good, the bad, and the ugly from Sunday's game. THE GREAT Tom Brady played out of his mind again in week two. Brady completed 31 of 40 for 423 yards, 3 TD's and no interceptions. Deion Branch had another productive game this week. He finished with 8…

Preseason Wrap Up: Starters Play, Haynesworth Debuts as Patriots Host the Giants

The starters suited up for the final dress rehearsal of 2011 Thursday night at Gillette.

The New England Patriots, after being torn apart by the Detroit Lions last Saturday, hosted the New York Giants for the final preseason game of 2011. Headlines: Most of the starters played. Albert Haynesworth debuts, making a big tackle early in the first quarter. Shaun Ellis suited up as well. Ochocinco played and made a nice catch on a hitch route from Tom Brady. Quarter by Quarter:   First Quarter: Ras-I Dowling the rookie cornerback, also played and made an early first impression when he made a key block on a fumble return from teammate Patrick Chung on the Giants first offensive series from scrimmage. Chung returned the ball to inside the 1 yard line to give Brady and the Patriots a first and goal just like that.  The very next play, …

Patriots Roundup: Training Camp, Victory in Tampa Bay

Several of the Patriots first team offense and defense were on the field tonight. The Patriots defeated the Buccaneers 31-14.

The New England Patriots stepped onto the field Thursday night to face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was the second preseason game of the year and after last week's 47-12 thumping of the Jaguars, the Patriots looked to sharpen their skills in tonight's game and that is exactly what happened. The Patriots defeated the Buccaneers, 31-14. The game featured the first preview of Tom Brady and Co. in game play as well as new Patriot wide receiver Chad Ochocinco. Brady played the entire first half, completing 11 of 19 for 118 yards. With the truncated training camp and preseason, it's crucial that the starters get some game time reps and are allowed to synch up as an offense. There are only two preseason games left and the clock is …

Thanks for the comment Jimmy. I imagine it has to be tough being a Dolphins fan in New England, but it's nice to hear a fan from a rival team show respect to the Patriots. -Cheers!   more ›

Patriots Training Camp: Ochocinco Suits Up

All eyes were on Ochocinco during day 2 of camp, as he took part in the afternoon practice. Fans got their first look at #85 in a Patriots uniform.

It takes an awful lot to draw fans and especially the medias attention away from Tom Brady. Every year at the Patriots Open Camp, Brady is almost always the main focus.  On Friday afternoon, when the Patriots suited up in pads and helmets, the attention was solely on #85 at camp, Chad Ochocinco.   Earlier in the day it was reported that both Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth would not be at camp until next week due to contract signings being ironed out. Something happened and happened quickly on Friday, as Ochocinco was a surprise guest in pads and a helmet to practice with Tom Brady, Wes Welker, and the rest of the team. Ochocinco had tweeted earlier, "I'm in heaven," signaling that he was indeed at Foxborough in the company of his new …

Patriots Training Camp: Day 1 Brings Brady, Cheers and Off Field Surprises

An on the field report from Foxborough. The Patriots take the field for the first time in 2011, all while adding two marquee names off the field.

The stands and grass surrounding Gillette Stadium were filled with anxious and excited fans Thursday morning. Day one, practice one of the 2011 Open Training Camp was full of cheers, and meanwhile, off the field, the Patriots welcomed two new additions to the team. The first announcement came in the morning.   The Patriots acquired via trade, Pro Bowl Defensive Tackle Albert Hayneswoth from the Washington Redskins for a 2013 5th round draft pick. While the deal is not finalized yet, Haynesworth must first pass a physical conditioning test, something he has failed in the past. Haynesworth has a checkered past to say the least, but given that players such as Cory Dilon, Randy Moss and others with less than perfect pasts have come to …
