Shaw's to be Sold in $3.3 Billion Deal

The owner of Shaw's and Star Market is selling stores to Cerberus Capital Management.

Shaw's and Star Market agreed to sell several stores to Cerberus Capital Management as part of $3.3 billion deal, according to a report in the Boston Globe Thursday. Cerberus Capital Management is a private equity firm that also controls Steward Hospital Health Care System. Supervalu Inc. of Minnesota owns Shaw's and Star Market and is expect to sell 169 stores as part of the deal for $100 million in cash, while Cerberus will assume $3.2 billion in existing debt the Globe reports. While the Boston Herald wrote "no immediate changes are planned for the West Bridgewater-based Shaw’s and Star Market grocery chains," the paper reported the deal "prompted speculation that some Shaw’s and Star Markets could return to the block after the deal …

Good riddens to them. I can get $90.00 worth of groceries at Market basket rather than $43.00 at Shaws. They are very expensive. The quality of their food is sub standard. I've bought three loaves of bread from the one in Stoughton, and two days later they are full of mold. God forbid you go to the deli and ask for something while the employees are talking about their personal lives. They are not…   more ›

Elizabeth Warren and the Ancestry Issue: What Do You Think? [Poll]

Democratic contender for U.S. Senate seat reportedly acknowledges she told schools of her heritage, but after she was hired.

After weeks of controversy, Elizabeth Warren tells the Boston Globe that yes, she told Harvard and University of Pennsylvania about her Native American ancestry, but says it came up after she was already hired. What do you think about her actions, how she handled the controversy — and most of all, if or how much that should figure into your vote this fall for either Warren (or her Democratic colleague in the race, Marisa DeFranco) or Republican Sen. Scott Brown? Vote on Foxborough Patch. Tell us by voting in the poll, or be more specific and articulate in the comments section below.

It's not her checking off Native American that's questionable - it's her handling of the question of why it was done. It took her too long to come up with the explanation that she "just wanted to meet other native americans who were like her". There were too many attempts to side-step the issue - the reason was to get preference - no question about that. Why else would anyone check "Native …   more ›

What's Next For Kraft Property?

The Boston Globe looks at what is next for the land across from Gillette Stadium now that the casino is out of the picture.

With the casino out of the picture, the question now remains what will the Kraft Group do with the 200-acre parcel across from Gillette Stadium, according to a report in the Boston Globe. The land has been looked at as a biotechnology park or a place for companies to locate their headquarters, but economic conditions made that unlikely. Foxborough selectmen James DeVellas, the new board chairman, said they were willing to work with the Kraft Group. “We do want to work with them as much as we can,” DeVellis said in the Boston Globe article. “But it has been a difficult year. And this will bring a quiet and calm back.” Both Bob Kraft and Steve Wynn ended their plans for a casino after seeing the results from last week's election where two …

Morris, you can't stop progress. I, for one, am a life long resident of Foxboro and I hate the satellite parking lots out on RT 1. I feel that they have hindered the development of a very tax-lucrative area of our town. Foxboro gets relatively little impact from development on RT 1 but it could see a major increase in tax revenue from smart development.   more ›

Federal Judge to Foxborough Selectmen: Let Kraft Group Speak

Federal judge says Kraft Group can't be barred from speaking in the public comment section at tonight's Foxborough selectmen's meeting.

Representatives from the Kraft Group can't be barred from speaking during the public comment section at tonight's Foxborough selectmen's meeting, according to a ruling today by a federal judge as reported in the Boston Globe. A civil rights complaint was filed Monday in US District saying that Kraft's constitutional free speech rights were violated when employees were denied the right to speak at the March 13 selectmen's meeting in the public comment part and then during the meeting part. The dispute is over two billboards on Route 1 near Gillette Stadium on Kraft-owned land. Kraft worshipers are out in force with TWO people trying to make it sound like the town is evil! I bet these are the same 2 idiot who would blame Corporate America for all the evil in the world (Kraft is a corporation you know). The board of selectmen is a thirn in Kraft and Wunn's side, and will stop the Casino joke from taking place. they are trying to divide the people and concur by getting …   more ›
