What's Next For Kraft Property?

The Boston Globe looks at what is next for the land across from Gillette Stadium now that the casino is out of the picture.

With the casino out of the picture, the question now remains what will the Kraft Group do with the 200-acre parcel across from Gillette Stadium, according to a report in the Boston Globe. The land has been looked at as a biotechnology park or a place for companies to locate their headquarters, but economic conditions made that unlikely. Foxborough selectmen James DeVellas, the new board chairman, said they were willing to work with the Kraft Group. “We do want to work with them as much as we can,” DeVellis said in the Boston Globe article. “But it has been a difficult year. And this will bring a quiet and calm back.” Both Bob Kraft and Steve Wynn ended their plans for a casino after seeing the results from last week's election where two …

Morris, you can't stop progress. I, for one, am a life long resident of Foxboro and I hate the satellite parking lots out on RT 1. I feel that they have hindered the development of a very tax-lucrative area of our town. Foxboro gets relatively little impact from development on RT 1 but it could see a major increase in tax revenue from smart development.   more ›

Foxborough Selectmen File Casino Issue Away; Praise Kraft's Decision

Foxborough selectmen praises Bob Kraft for his decision to end casino project.

If the previous night’s election represented the death of the casino project, then Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Foxborough Board of Selectmen represented the funeral. In the first selectmen meeting since the town election, the board of delectmen gave what may be their final thoughts on the issue of a casino. With four members of the board now against negotiating with the Kraft family and the Wynn Group over a potential casino, Bob Kraft and Steve Wynn both announced in statements Tuesday that they would end all plans to build a casino on Route 1. “I was surprised it was so swift,” new selectman Ginny Coppola said. “I would of expected it down the road, but I’m happy that its done now and people can get back to normal.” While Coppola …

Selectman Wals has a valid point and reason to be concerned. The town will, at some point in the future, question it's decision. Kraft and Wynn should have been allowed to present their proposals, plans, timelines, etc so the town could have seen the entire scope of this project. Kraft and Wynn have a reputation to maintain in the business world. In no way would they want to impair their …   more ›

No Casino for Foxborough

The Kraft Group and Wynn Resorts have decided to end a plan to build a casino after Monday's election.

There will be no casino for Foxborough. After Monday's election, both the Kraft Group and the Wynn Group have decided not to pursue a casino for Route 1 in Foxborough. Here are the statements from both groups. released today. Statement from The Kraft Group: When the Commonwealth of Massachusetts passed gaming legislation, we brought forth an opportunity with the unquestioned premier developer and operator in the industry. We have the greatest respect for Steve Wynn, his team and his business model, and believe this unique opportunity was worthy of a chance to be heard. With Monday’s election, we believe the citizens of Foxborough have spoken. As we originally committed, we have heard them and respect their collective voice. With that …

Boston Names Its Own Gaming Board

Boston Mayor Tom Menino announced his gaming board yesterday to work on a deal to build a casino at Suffolk Downs.

The City of Boston is taking a different approach to the casino than Foxborough is, according to a report in the Boston Herald. Boston mayor Thomas Menino has put together a gaming board to get the best deal possible for the city at Suffolk Downs with Caesar's Entertainment. Foxborough isn't negotiating with The Wynn Group, who wants to build a site across from Gillette Stadium on land owned by Bob Kraft. Selectmen sent a letter to Governor Deval Patrick asking not to be considered as a host community. “While we’re not the first city to have a destination resort casino, I am committed to doing it better — the Boston way,” Menino said yesterday at City Hall as he introduced the five-member "host advisory" committee, which will be chaired …

Foxborough Selectmen Want a Casino Meeting

The Foxborough Selectmen are expected to have a meeting on the Wynn Resorts' Casino.

(Updated March 18) The Foxborough Board of Selectmen will be looking to hold another forum at the high school on the Wynn Resorts plan to build a casino on Route 1 on land owned by Robert Kraft. Chairman Lawrence Harrington wanted to hear from resident Marc Todd, who wrote a letter to the board asking them to look into forming a negotiation team to be prepared for the casino project to go forward, but was advised by town manager Kevin Paicos not to continue the discussion because it wasn't on the agenda and was a violation of the opening meeting law. Todd has expressed his opposition to the casino. (His letter to the board of the selection is on Foxborough Patch.) "We need to be more of the leaders that we were voted in to be," said …

I believe the issue JimD was they couldn't find a tenant willing to occupy the biotech park, which Kraft wanted identified before building began. Can't blame him if no obvious suitors. They tried.   more ›

Resident Asks Foxborough Selectmen to Form Negotiation Team For Casino

Resident wants selectmen to form independent negotiation team to deal with Wynn casino issue.

(The following letter was sent to the Foxborough selectmen by resident Marc Todd.) To the Editor: Whether for or against the casino project, it seems clear to me that Mr. Kraft and Mr. Wynn will to continue to advance this proposal to a Town vote, as it is their right to do so.  I am now very concerned about the position the Town will find itself in from a business prospective if we are not careful. As I have always advocated we need to protect the Town first.  Working on the vote, whether yes or no, is only part of the exposure the Town faces in a proposal of this magnitude. Consider if we ignore this proposal in hopes over time it will go away. That is not realistic; a vote will most likely happen at some point. If we drift along and …

Residents, Patriot Fans Weigh in on Casino Plan in Las Vegas Sun

The Las Vegas Sun, casino developer Steve Wynn's hometown newspaper, sent a reporter to Foxborough to look at what is going on with the casino plan.

It's a split decision between Foxborough residents and Patriot fans on the casino, according to a report in the Las Vegas Sun. After interwiewing town officials and Foxborough residents, casino developer Steve Wynn's hometown newspaper found that Patriots would enjoy having the opportunity to attend a game at Gillette Stadium, followed by a postgame trip to the casino. "“It would be the all-around package: Come to a tailgate, go to a football game, and after the football game, after a great win, go gamble at the casino and have a hot streak at the blackjack tables,” said Donna Coleman of Sandown, N.H. in the Las Vegas Sun. “I’ve been to Steve Wynn’s casino out in Vegas ... it’s going to be done really well. I don’t think the town has …
