From the launch of a new must-have Apple product to how to avoid getting sick from the holiday buffet, here are five things you need to know for the coming week:

1. Just in time for the holidays, Apple's new Mac Pro line of desktop computers, which start at $2,999, are available for purchase today. Order here.

2. Friday, Dec. 20 is Go Caroling Day. Ready to belt out a few tunes? Follow Patch’s Caroling 101 Guide.

3. It’s not too late to buy (and ship) your Christmas gifts. The cut-off date varies from USPS, UPS, FedEx and online outlets, so consult this handy guide for specific shipping deadlines.

4. Approximately 40 million credit and debit card accounts used at Target stores may have been compromised between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, the company announced in a press release. The Secret Service is investigating the security breach. Information may have been stolen from the magnetic stripe on the backs of cards used at most of Target's 1,800 stores around the country.

5. A national outbreak of antibiotic-resistant salmonella that started in October has sickened more than 389 people in 23 states and is hospitalizing them at double the rate expected. A report issued Thursday by the Pew Charitable Trusts says current policies don't protect public health and need to be changed. Hitting up a holiday buffet soon?
