Former Patriots Tackle Matt Light Visits Local Students Wednesday

Southeastern Regional High School students in the cabinet and collision repair department constructed cornhole boards that will be auctioned off for Matt Light's charity.

Students at Southeastern Regional High School in Easton were paid a visit by former New England Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light Wednesday morning.

Light mingled with students and autographed sets of cornhole boards constructed by the cabinet and collision repair departments. The boards, when completed, will be auctioned off at Light's charity cornhole tournament at Gillette Stadium on June 1 to benefit the Light Foundation.

"This foundation emphasizes character building and accountability, which is the same thing we do," said Southeastern Collision repair instructor Robert Morin.

Morin said the students had been working on the cornhole boards for about two weeks and they were slated to be completed by the tournament on June 1.

Superintendent Luis Lopes said the project was suggested by Foxborough School Committee member Steve Udden. Lopes jumped at the idea of a service project for his students.

"It's all about educating youth and having youth be active and so forth," he said.

Light took time to talk with the students and explain his reason for Wednesday's visit.

"What you have all done with these cornhole sets and the work you put into it, not only will it hopefully raise some really good money at the event selling these boards but it really helps us further our mission," he said. "We work with kids from all different ranges from different outdoor programs, to camps, scholarships and all those things. You can’t do it without a large team of people that donate their time and people like yourselves that help out maybe for the first time."
